In your weekly edinburgh cycle 'digest' (bumper edition 😅): The Search for Political Will; Fundraising Opportunities; Transport & Environment Committee May Meeting Roundup; and @edfoc Kicks Off!
Sunday: Slept in a bit, did some work, then 26km of #Cycling with @TAV, wrapped up an article for the Lowertown Echo, and a bit more work before calling it a day.
Tomorrow, we're off to Algonquin park for a quick break. And we'll see if the black flies are still the size of small birds like I remember. 🤣
Has anyone named the paradox where someone being considerate to a cyclist is actually dangerous because the 5 asshats behind them will try and rush through as soon as they're able, whatever the risks?
Not saying people should not be considerate, nor that I'm not grateful for their thought. Just that asshats gonna asshat, and by doing so they risk my life. #BikeTooter#cycling
“My children are not part of any cycling lobby”: Residents hit out at council after emails show officials disregarding locals’ opposition to removal of LTN as “concerted response from cyclists”
Aw, nuts. Interview with a guy who built his own tiny home, but they didn't talk about this part: built a rack for his bike and made a bike trailer that matches his home which also has a hanging place. #BikeTooter#Cycling

We'll start out with our introduction (with help from @jfparis)
Q1. Where are you posting from today? Where we are, Spring semester is over or almost over for many students. How does this affect your riding?
Indianapolis Offers Free Bike Share to its Residents
"Starting today, Marion County residents can register for a free annual IndyRides Free pass for Pacers Bike Share, coinciding with the launch of 325 new e-bikes available for public use.
The sleek white e-bikes, distinguishable from the gold classic bikes, are now stationed at 50 bikeshare hubs across the city, ready to be accessed via the BCycle mobile app."
🧵 Even before I formed @ucaccessnow, I persisted through campus channels trying to get them to acknowledge that cycle racks ALSO have to be accessible, not car parking spaces. After months of brick walls with UC and my union, I got a meeting with the head of UC Davis TAPS, who
This is why I & @ucaccessnow want all cycle racks to be accessible designs, accessibly sited. Here we have a twofer - for-profit micromobility that was given carte blanche on campus & in town without offering accessible vehicles nor a just plan for dealing with bad actors...like the people who parked at the new rationed "oversized cycle parking only" racks.
On the same trip, saw SPIN cycles dumped in the middle of the mixed-use path, parked at the end spots which are the only spots on these inaccessible #DavisCA racks where trikes, quads, and bakfiets can fit, and parked blocking egress from disabled auto spaces.
Don't ration accessibility; it's nearly guaranteed selfish people & corporations will take it. Build everything as accessible as possible.
