Filing this one away for the next time I hear someone say “you could never fit LRT on this street!” (side note: #Brussels has a brilliant tram system).

Most pedestrian streets that I’ve seen just close off the street to vehicles and they’re done. Nothing wrong with that. But Boulevard Anspach in has gone a step further and added trees, wildflower gardens, planters and rain gardens. Looks great!

A city scene showing a metro sign labeled "Bourse-Beurs", some passersby, a row of parked electric scooters, and traditional buildings with decorative facades and balconies and a green garden in the foreground.

“Architecture should play to all the senses - the smell of vegetation after rain, the sound of birds, and the wind in trees.”

These route-specific demarcated sidewalk queuing areas make a lot of sense … and they make bus boarding in Hong Kong very efficient.

We don’t talk enough about the link between car dependency and housing affordability. Here’s a good case study from Atlanta https://www.southernurbanism.org/p/mobility-unlocking-home-affordability

Lovely restoration of one of the oldest and most intact commercial buildings in Hamilton, by some estimates dating back to the 1820s. It’s now in its second century as a still-active watch-menders shop. And look at the details! Tin ceiling. Century-old storefront windows. Tiled threshold.

Here’s the Baana in #Helsinki, the Dequindre Cut in #Detroit, and the Cultural Trail in #Indianapolis. /1
