Nobody and nothing can prevent all crime, so we actually do need someone to respond to it. And I mean someone with a gun, because a pencil and pad isn’t going to cut it.
Turns out that some people are just going to keep on criming until they’re physically detained and carted away to a place where they can’t crime any more. And they’re not going to go down without a fight.
We can and should address the causes of crime. And we need to keep the police aimed at criminals, not at those who are guilty only of being Black. But we do need the police in some form, regardless.
The idea of “defunding” the police is a huge loser. Not only will it never happen, but even proposing it just makes it more likely that the fascists will take over and unleash the worst sort of policing on us all.
