😳"A politically connected #Detroit synagogue president was found stabbed dead this morning outside her home in the city’s Lafayette Park neighborhood, east of downtown.
At minimum, #Detroit needs a train between the Detroit Metro Airport and Downtown.
Come on now.
This was last weekend.
Waited over 2 hours for a bus at the airport.
I am patient, but this should not happen.
Bus service cannot hope to (even remotely) satisfy a region the size of the Detroit Metro.
It simply cannot.
Not sure how many are coming in out-of-town for the #GrandPrix this weekend, but the #NFL Draft next year is going to be a disaster from a transportation perspective.
So... last year during June's heatwave, when my wife and I were getting ready to leave #Texas for #Detroit, a tiny #kitten that was living under a nearby industrial trash compactor found us.
We cleaned him all up, took him to the vet and because we already have two #cat babies of our own... my wife's co-worker who had recently lost her cat baby adopted him.
At some point, someone needs to do a investigative report on how many historic, vacant (but viable) buildings were demolished and condemned to surface parking lots in Downtown #Detroit in the service of a shallow, one-time Super Bowl (2006) event…
But it looks like the three buildings next to the Harvard Square Centre Building (which is currently undergoing renovation into residential units) on Broadway Avenue might soon undergo their own "renovation".
That little area of #Detroit could sure use a boost... and it looks like it just might be happening.
A walk down Cass Avenue (my first time) in #Detroit over the weekend. 📸
There is work to do, of course, but things are really shaping up.
In the near-to-medium future, there are serious discussions about putting a cap over the I-75 highway (as shown) - which would partly undo the separation that exists between Midtown and Downtown.
Here is a unique one that I snapped yesterday in #Detroit.
This is from inside the original stairwell of the Kales Building (opened in 1914), looking out, at the stabilized facade that used to be part of the now-demolished Adams Theatre Building.
I like Governor #Whitmer’s leadership in #Michigan in general and I completely understand where this is coming from… but we need to get super aggressive in significantly reducing our dependency on #automotive#manufacturing.
Like, right now.
It is not coming back anywhere close to where it was at its peak.
In my view, #Michigan and #Detroit have assets and vast pools of human creativity and talent, here, already studying and living in the state and city, that are being tragically underutilized.
This article presents some ideas, but they are far too crude and high-level to be actually useful.
Looks like a whole lotta #Detroit#OnePride#Lions faithful at #FordField for this preseason game. Teddy Bridgewater and this second string offense not looking so hot on that opening three and out.
I am relatively new to #Detroit, and it is possible that I missed it, but can someone reassure me that there is a near-term plan to dump the token-based fare system to ride the People Mover?
A near-term plan to consolidate all city/regional transportation into a single fare system?
This should have really been addressed during the recent Detroit State of the City address, if it was not done so.
