In Michigan, Governor Whitmer has made a lot of progress on a number of issues. One issue she is FAILING us on is mining in the Upper Peninsula. She has okayed funding for a Canadian company to come into the UP, specifically the Porcupine Mountain region, and do incredibly harmful strip mining. She needs to be called out for this. The U.P. has some of the only pristine wilderness left in Michigan and it will be ruined by this mining.

I Wish ____ Would Run

We asked readers which other candidates they would like to see in the presidential race.

The two candidates I would like to see in the 2024 race for the presidency are John , two-term Republican governor of Ohio from 2011 to 2019, and Gretchen , who is serving her second term as Democratic governor of Michigan.

Both Mr. Kasich and Ms. are likable, accomplished politicians with extensive political executive experience.

" Gov. Gretchen is set to sign a package of bills that would transition the state to 100 percent by 2040. The bills include robust provisions for workers & are among the most ambitious efforts undertaken by any state to move toward a carbon-free future in a manner that is actively good for working people. Significantly, Democrats are testing this approach in a swing state in the heart of the industrial Midwest."

Let's take the gloves off here.

Bigotry, of all kinds, is constantly trying to infect this state.

As a resident, I am disappointed in the silence.

adamjcook,

@markpoole Sadly, it is happening all around and it is happening quite vigorously now - by an insane Michigan that got kicked to the curb this past state election.

weekend is now here and I am holding my breath for the hate and discrimination that will soon arrive for that.

The White House does indeed need to do more.

And, again, Governor as well.
