On this, rarest of Alabama snow days, I give you my first album to listen to.. some of the tracks were crafted with such a day in mind. Contemplative, meditative, moody music to drift away to? I got you, fam.

New batch of incense finally finished that I started last summer.
I make my own incense to use and sell in my shop. While I usually gather plants, berries and resins for this specific purpose, it is also a good use for the bits of plant material left over from other uses. It is respectful of the plant to use all the parts you have gathered and not waste anything. I use both wild and garden herbs, flowers, bark, resin, leaves and stalks. I use pine, fir, spruce, cedar, bark, cones, leaves and resin. I use flowers such as yarrow, lavender, rose and clover. I add crushed berries such as saskatoons, mahonia, juniper or elderberry as well as honey and mead for binding.

Making my own incense 2 or 3 times per year is intensely satisfying and a spiritual way to honour the land. It is also a great alternative to buying incense and resins from countries on the other side of the world that are often from endangered species or exploited sources. While I do have a few from other places I have visited, namely Glastonbury, I use them only for very special occasions. I was inspired by the Glastonbury incenses from Star Child (they use local ingredients) and the scent takes me right back to the Red Spring. I've now created new scent memories with my own blends used for special ceremonies and rituals right here.

The gets a lot of criticism by people with modern sensibilities, and for good reason. One of the things we forget about is that the was an initiatory order of warrior monks. I realize that maybe most people know that from an intellectual standpoint, but you also have to really understand what it meant for the of the Jedi. Just looking at the source material it was abundantly clear that they were the stuff of the . However, the Jedi would have spent thousands of years with writings building up around the analysis of the Code and its applications, as well as likely competing interpretations and schools of thought.

I've come to view it as a meditation upon which the Jedi Order is founded. What it does is define what they're truly about and ultimately interested in achieving. From what I can see, it is about Illusory VS Reality. The Jedi see Peace, Knowledge, Serenity, Harmony, and The Force as Reality. By contrast, Emotion, Ignorance, Passion, Chaos, and Death are Illusory.

What reinforces this idea is the fact that the Twilight of the Jedi was fated as the Will of the Force from the moment the Jedi agreed to remain and protect the Old Republic after the Sith were defeated. There is nothing more Illusory, more temporary, more fleeting than a government - even on a galactic scale. By entering into this forbidden marriage with an Illusion, the Jedi violated The Code and doomed themselves to the long path to Order 66. As George Lucas has said, many times, Star Wars is like poetry and rhymes. He's also known for themes like the ever shifting sand of geopolitical affairs, and the idea that events both great and small can have unalterable impacts upon Fate itself.
