I haven't given any updates on the #NewPipe development lately. Although it might seem that most NewPipe devs have been inactive for some time, a lot has happened behind the scenes. Let's catch up on the past weeks months and take a look into future steps of the NewPipe development.
Shortly after that, we were able to enable reproducible builds again. #fdroid now distributes an APK signed by us and one signed by them. This would not have been possible without the help of the great @fdroidorg team. Many thanks to everybody involved!
Finally figured out how to play an alarm only through headphones on an #iPhone and NOT through speakers (for example when sleeping on a train and you don’t want to miss your stop but also not annoy others):
Open #iOS#Shortcuts, create an automation with a timer and have it play a music track that’ll wake you up. Turn off “ask before running” and “notify when run”.
Connect your headphones, set a good volume, and have a nap.
(Just don’t forget to disable it or else it’ll go off the next day too)
@esther Thanks! On #Samsung phones you can use a Bixby routine or "Modes and Routines".
For #Android phones in general, there are also third-party apps like Easer and Automation in the #FDroid#FOSS (#FreeAndOpenSource) repository; see f-droid.org .
(Haven't tried those two.)
Or more simply though less musically: you might be able to set a vibrating alarm without sound. 📳🔇
Or the alarm clock might have a setting to vibrate instead of playing sound whenever the phone is on vibrate or silent.
@jr@Bubu@mynacol@Foxboron I would love to see documentation of real world cases of that APK signing key rotation in action. Know of any? Seems like thing we should include in the #FDroid docs too.
I took an action to tell Google to stop collecting location data and aiding abortion prosecutors.
Despite Google’s past commitment to delete location history for those who visit abortion clinics, Accountable Tech’s latest research shows that Google is still collecting and retaining both location history and location search queries for abortion clinics.
The #InviziblePro app sounds like a compelling solution that one can use mobile devices, with the help of friends at #FDroid.
Unfortunately, it seems #Australia don't allow ethical #telephony devices into the country. What we mean when we say that is devices that can easily be flashed with ethical #FOSS firmware. Otherwise it would be a contender.
Tibor Kaputa spends his days developing the Simple range of apps for Android-based OS and makes them available free of charge on F-Droid. I use a bunch of them and they're fantastic. Please consider trying out his apps and making a contribution to support his work:
Another shameless plug for the Simple range of apps for Android. I've installed a bunch of them using F-Droid. I love them so much I wish Tibor Kaputa (the developer) would put out a Simple OS; a deGoggled Android fork with all the Simple apps as defaults, and the Simple aesthetic applied to the UI of the whole OS.

@kuketzblog
In der Tabelle sieht es so aus, als könnte man Threema von #fdroid herunterladen. Dort gibt es aber kein Threema, falls ich es nicht übersehen habe.
@apps
„With #Fdroid, add our repository https://fdroid.fedilab.app.“
Is thereanything else to do? It might be not working... org is the release/version identical?
I updates the source list before I tested it. But there was no update at all.
Trying new things while hoping to find some clients that actually care to respond 🙄
Among them #Android development.
At least I don't have to use Java!
Although I can't escape #JVM (but I already had contact to #Groovy via Jenkins).
@mlemweb Since it will be about sewing I was wondering whether you would generally be interested in testing?
The APK would be loaded onto the Android smartphone via ADB during development.
The emulator freezes my laptop.
I hope to release to #FDroid one day.
After Amazon started screwing over magazines, I subscribed to #Clarkesworld's Patreon. Which is cool! But I wanted to read the latest issue on my phone, but the file is in #PDF form. I hate PDFs. Anyone know an actually good PDF viewer for android? Bonus if it's #Fdroid, but I'll take just free with a bonus of not ad-laden.
Otherwise, I'll have to bust out my ancient Kobo Touch #eReader.
Just because some people now think #fdroid wanted to sabotage Mastodon or something: the post in question was primarily posted, to inform users that they have to do additional manual steps, to receive updates for the app in the future. Which is unfortunate, but needed because of Androids security model.
Seems that the latest update from the Fdroid can not be installed as usual - over the previous one - due to the mismatched version number and changed minimal requirements.
#Security#Nerds and #Experts of #Mastodon, I have a #Question for you.
.
.
I am attempting to de-#Google my digital life (as much as is possible at the moment). I got myself an #Android#MobilePhone that does not have Google services installed on it, and I am using #FDroid, #AuroraStore, #APKPure, etc. to get the apps, and using the #AppBrain#AdDetector and #DuckDuckGo's #App#Tracking#Protection (#Beta built into their mobile browser).
.
I am doing my best to use #minimal apps, and only getting ones that are not security focused when necessary. I am not logging into Google, or any other #BigSocial/ #BigData services except when necessary.
.
My question is, are there any #SMS / #Texting apps that allow you to login on the #Web and #sync messages to your phone (even if only on the same network), and a #keyboard that has #VoiceToText that does not use Google or #Microsoft? I am currently using #SwiftKey, but only until I figure out the #T9 app I am using with the KB (HYBRID phone running Android 11).
Proposal for an open source/FOSS edition of ChromeOS:
-Fdroid and Aurora Store as the app stores
-Vivaldi as the default browser (specially made for ChromeOS)
-Google integration replaced with Nextcloud
-Search replaced with DuckDuckGo, Qwant, or a pre-customized SearXNG
-Play Services replaced with microG
-WINE integration (if possible)
Don't know what else to add actually but I would like some more ideas if possible! Also, this is just a concept
Do you use reddit mostly through the app or web?
Because I only use web, on mobile and desktop. I can't live without adblock.
