"Her experience illustrates the layers of anxiety pumping parents endure as they travel, backed up by stories of dumped milk, carry-on pump pushback, alleged “breast milk discrimination” and in-flight crackdowns. Lactating travelers who are not able to pump can face more than embarrassment and discomfort: It could result in infection and reduced milk supply."
I'm on a roll here. Flying is already misery enough. Imagine a long flight in the economy class cabin in a seat like this. Um yeah, no thank you! #flying
Interesting read. IMO you can tell it's by a British writer from this para (I'm picturing a booze-soaked EasyJet flight to somewhere hot):
"Typically, alcohol consumption and the behavioural tendencies of different cultures under its influence are the primary threats to a peaceful flight. Passengers on some routes are infamous for drinking."
Flight attendant reveals how crew deal with aggressive passengers
An exploration of airline boarding passes and questionable novelty signs repeatedly descends into Dean and Simon arguing about Breakfast TV presenters. Enjoy!
Sigh this is the problem with premium economy - it's still way too expensive compared to economy. I'd rather economy seats just had 25% more space for 25% more fare, than this pricey induced scarcity.
"Premium economy class is now an increasing focus for airlines since the revenue relative to the space these seats occupy now earns them more than any other class."

So. More fun. After 2 days of battling excel (I don't use it that much!) here's a chart showing both radiation dosage (microsieverts per hour) and altitude for Air NZ flight 691 on Thursday night. I may have mentioned there was a geiger counter on board! #geigercounter#flying
The "If It's Not Boeing I'm Not Going Mug" is sold out of the official Boeing Store, and I'm so sad, because I still have friends for whom I haven't yet bought it
Here's another, someone compile a list before I do?
A Boeing 777 has six tires on each of its two main landing gear struts, according to the airline. It is designed to land with missing or damaged tires.
Airplane altimeters over-read in colder-than-normal temperatures. If you were on a plane before the digital age and it had to clear a ridge, this is how the flight crew decided whether they were actually high enough to make it.
You don't need to have an E6B analogue flight computer (though it's fun); just hit any key to see the complex steps — one really hoped the navigator hadn't skipped their morning tea or coffee. 🙂
Ferry to Surry - we were crossing a river and when the ferry took off, hundreds of birds followed the boat with us. I caught this one over the side of the deck. I love the face and the motion.
Among my hobbies, probably the weirdest one is circular slide rules. I was introduced to them 22 years ago when I started flying lessons, and have since branched out from the E6B to non-aviation circular rules. I like them because
I will so miss the 717-200 jets. I love just how steeply they ascend. I love how smoothly they fly. I love how reliable they are. I love how comfortable they are.
I know they are guzzlers of energy. And they need to be replaced with more efficient commercial services. But they are such beautiful aircraft. If I were up for buying a jet, it would be this one.
If you like a steep ascent, there's a lot to be said for visiting the local gliding club and asking if they would let you join for an air-experience flight... There's nothing quite like a winch launch ;)
(and you never know, you might find a sport you enjoy too!)
