I've been a huge fan of (and hugely musically influenced by) Sebadoh since the 90s. It's awesome how Lou & Jason switch off guitar and bass and mix both their styles. More people might know the name Lou Barlow, but in my opinion, Jason Loewenstein gets massively overlooked as a songwriter.
Also, I'm always amused (maybe mostly since my name is Jake) that Jason has been using the truly EXCELLENT URL http://jakerock.com for many years -- it's so memorable. 😂
This (12/28/23) afternoon I’m hosting a fill-in radio show on WMBR completely outside my usual modern classical wheelhouse.
I’ll be taking listeners on a tour of the indie band scene in Kansas in the 90s, playing music by Action Man, The Creature Comforts, Exit 159, Kill Creek, El Fontain, Sufferbus,Truck Stop Love & Ultimate Fakebook.
From 4-5:30pm ET on WMBR Cambridge 88.1 FM streaming on https://wmbr.org.
#23From2023 - #Wednesday – Rat Saw God (Dead Oceans). This Asheville, North Carolina outfit creates an off-kilter hybrid of rootsy Americana, urban noise and shoegaze sounds. Karly Hartzman brings her Lucinda Williams-style drawl to more conventional numbers like “Chosen to Believe,” after screaming bloody valentines on longer excursions like “Bull Believer.” Guitarist MJ Lenderman released his own “live and loose” set a few months after Rat Saw God took off.
If I had to pinpoint a moment, now years passed but not recognized at that time, where I crossed the line into being an enby it was probably the time I semi-sadly listened to Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl by Broken Social Scene like almost every day for months and didn't understand why. #indierock#music#nonbinary
The Roseline get through relationship difficulties in the most tender way (really) on their new song "I Was a Gun." At once familiar and iconic, The Roseline are one of the best bands in Americana right now.
Over the weekend, I re-arranged a track from October, to change its "voice" from a Lou Reed parody to more of mine. To Pomegranate it up as no one but me would say.
An unreleased track that had a video, the video has been updated.
My #SpotifyWrapped Artist fairy 🧚 eyelashes recap! I truly truly appreciate every single listener on my weird little music journey. Thank you everyone so so much!
