Finished , an extremely satisfying . The main characters are all so loveable in their frailty and humanity, their longings all worn for us all to see. Nobody has it easy and there are tears to be shed but the endings are satisfying for them all. Top-10 drama for sure.

OK, so I'm looking for and RECS.

Not interested in: het romance stories, stories abt/centering cops, BL or GL romance plots that feature cheating.

PLEASE REC ME: BL and GL stories, nothing super long (maybe max. 20 eps?), and ideally nothing set in a high school setting. I do love mystery plots. Historical settings are A-OK as are contemporary ones too.

FAVE Dramas I've watched: Imperial Coroner, Bad Buddy, and Semantic Error. (Yes, pretty old stuff, but there we are, LOL.)

In k-dramas they always store super important and confidential documents in USB sticks without making a copy or protecting the contents with encryption.
It all comes down to stealing that USB stick 😂😂😂!

just want to say that i appreciate the Mastodon folks so much for being such a mature, pleasant and non-fandom-gatekeeper lot.
I am a mod of the CDrama subreddit and let me tell ya, I feel a spike of anxiety each time i am there. I have to wade through sinophobic things and worse, those fan worshippers who will harass u for even saying anything less than glowy about their idols.
I kinda understand why God banned idol worship now 😆🤣

@AnnaAnthro Well Heartbeat isn't that great TBH. And Death's Game IS very violent, the only I dropped because of the violence (and on Netflix I've seen The Glory, D.P, Bloodhounds, etc, so I'm not hyper-sensitive).

I started SecretRomanticGuesthouse #KDrama for the excellent Ahn Nae Sang, and for 2 actors I like but haven't seen in ages - Han Chae Ah and Lee Mi Do. Sadly, after 1 epsiode, I doubt even the three of them together will be able to get me though this one. #KDramas

Spouse and I finished watching the first season of Picard.

We both love TNG. And many of the characters in this Picard show are endearing. Not the best story or script, tho.

Afterwards, Spouse said, "are there any sci-fi #kdrama shows? They have better writers."

LOL. So now I'm making him watch #TheSilentSea with me.

As we also start watching season 2 of Picard. 😉

Any other sci-fi kdrama or #cdrama or #TaiwaneseDrama you'd recommend?

    #SpaceSweepers was also good.

Why is it that when women in dramas are in disguise as men, they are so obviously not. Are we supposed to suspend our disbelief? Is there another explanation? Perhaps that we are supposed to believe that no one would dare consider that a woman would wear men’s clothing?

I need a or recommendation where the romance has a happy ending, please? I cannot afford to have my heart shredded by fiction currently.

And my brain doesn’t seem to be able to deal with words currently so I’m not reading.

@AnnaAnthro @Vinjii Both were fatastic. I have quite a fondness for sageuks, so liking The Red Sleeve didnt surprise me. But 25-21 did- I was hesitant to watch as I thought it would be a teen drama. But wow, it was so much more.

Looks good. They definitely seem to be sticking with primarily action/thriller types of series. Not a rom-com in the lot!

Last episode of KNIGHT FLOWER comes out on Viki tomorrow and I can’t wait. Apparently it ended on ratings of 18.4% which is phenomenal.

Then I will be re-watching a couple of things, there is no other currently airing series that catches my interest.

"Can This Love Be Translated ?"
Ofcourse there are many Kdramas to watch, new or old

    Or Hong Sister's dramas 🙂

The latest , the " Alchemy Of Souls" are kind of fading away now. Probably 1000's are still (re-) watching it.

But there is a new Hong Sisters coming, perhaps July this year.

I see different names on different sites, dare not write any of them till it is confirmed.
    Specially the FL !

A police cadet by day, a vigilante who hunts down criminals by night. Vigilante fulfils our darkest desires for justice.

    https://dramatea88.wordpress.com/2024/02/13/vigilante-kdrama-review/

    dramatea88.wordpress.com, to television

Vigilante centres around a man with a secret identity: By day Kim Ji Yong is a police cadet, by night, he hunts down criminals who have escaped the law or received mere slaps on the wrist. When he was a child, he witnessed his mother beaten to death by a man and then saw him get a light sentence for the murder. As the Vigilante, Ji Yong swoops deliver the justice these criminals truly deserve.

What I think about the drama

I was really taken aback by how violent you show is.

I don’t know whether this is a recent thing with KDramas, especially now that international streaming platforms are buying them, but I am not really enjoying this more violent aspect.

I never realized how much I kind of appreciated the fact that censorship tones down violence. Chinese dramas and Korean dramas have very strict censorship laws, and I always chuckle when knives are blurred out in Korean dramas, which I thought was damn hilarious.

In Chinese dramas, the censorship can be over the top, but you’re not supposed to show too much blood and gore, though blood spitting is a thing. It took me a while to realise that I truly appreciated that, because after one year of watching almost exclusively Chinese dramas, watching Vigilante felt like a slap in the face, because oh, wow: Violence, violence! Ouch!

And the violence was so repetitive. Here is an episode with our hero beating up a bad guy. And here’s another. And another. And it disturbs me that he seemed to take pleasure in beating up his targets, so much so that I almost feel sorry for his victims! And he doesn’t just beat them up but kills them.

At first, I thought they’re going for a more Dexter-like character: A serial killer of killers. (That would’ve been intriguing to watch.)

Yet, Ji Young doesn’t give me that vibe either. So, I wasn’t sure what to think about his actions. I felt like his character isn’t fleshed out properly. Although we know why he is doing what he is doing, the lack of a moral arc makes him difficult to root for.

However, this is a slick, high quality production. And maybe you’re in the mood for a dark, cathartic drama about bad guys getting the justice they deserved.

But for me, it felt like watching an endless reel of people being beaten up. It wears you down after a while.

    Final Verdict: 7.5

A slick production without much soul. Watch it if you’re really mad at somebody!

Trying Viki before I buy the Viki Pass, I can't survive with 4 unskippable ads 😭

Their content library is pretty unbeatable though! So many K/Cdramas that I've wanted to watch are only available there.

People complain a lot when pairs an older person (be it a man or a woman) with a younger person, with a 5-year gap. But the same people celebrated when Anakin Skywalker fell in love, and later married, Padmé Amidala (who was older than him). 🤷🏽

    jodmentum, to television

This is a casting pet peeve but I'm tired of characters that are supposed to be raised in the US or Europe that don't have the correct accents. It's a real annoying sticking point. Your character was raised in Iowa and you can't pronounce corn correctly.

    EllenInEdmonton,

    @jodmentum @s1m0n4 @ronsboy67
I agree that there are many shows where the character has supposedly lived abroad at some point and then can't copy the most basic of English sentences. If the character is one of the leads, they'd better cast appropriately or change the storyline.
