Last Sunday Latvian OSM community (in the massive numbers of two for this event :) ) created streetview images for the Ķīpsala (literally - bale island) region of Riga.
Do you like some remote mapping for relaxation? These fresh images could allow to add a lot of detail.
I'm really starting to get into #OpenStreetMap editing and now have the desire to organize an editing event in which one or two people are boots on the ground, livestreaming their perspective walking around an area in a Discord call while others are editing and adding features to the map as they are reported from the people walking around.
Seems like the best way to get pedestrian amenities - stairs, benches, bins, emergency phones, bike parking, etc - effectively and accurately.
Twenty-four (24) people (half of them are new to and beginner in @openstreetmap) gathered together to add open data in #OpenStreetMap that can be used for societal and community development!
More than 20 trees were added using @everydoor and new street-level imagery for Magsaysay Ave. and Laurel Ave. were uploaded in #mapillary!
We have representation from student orgs, advocacy groups, govt and private sectors!
You might still be recovering from last night's social, but snooze and you lose the opportunity to give a lightning talk or host a Birds of a Feather session. Sign up at our registration desk!
For fun and camaraderie, some @pinoy#OpenStreetMap folks are taking their #bicycles around Marikina, to collect street-level imagery this coming weekend.
Hey there, I've got something really captivating to share with you!
Let me introduce you to Mapilio, an incredible platform that lets you take your exploration to a whole new level. With Mapilio, you can upload photos of any place, and it transforms these visuals into an immersive map experience. It's like magic for mapping!
For all the exciting details, be sure to visit our website at https://mapilio.com
@tugba it would be nice if #KartaView, #Mapillary, and #Mapilio@mapilio could work on interoperability of uploaded images or at least make a tool so that it's easier to contribute the same photos to all services.
Has anyone built (or considered building) a local-first, federated alternative to Mapillary / KartaView (or Google Street View)?
It would be interesting to be able to capture GBs/TBs of street level
images/LiDAR data and be able to view/edit in iD locally - and allow others to access (perhaps via a torrent) after publishing a metadata file somewhere with moderation (fediverse?)
iD editor’s ‘show local jpegs on map’ has got me thinking.
🍏 We’ve been here before, multiple times, but it’s one of my pet peeves. I’m sorry Apple Maps sucks so much at actually navigating here, because the app looks SO good. No one else has this attention to detail!
Trees, crosswalks, everything looks so perfect. But follow directions = get fines.
@maique i fehlt in love with @streetcomplete APP. It supports adding details to POIs as well as adding lane details to ways etc. via overlays. You can also add new POIs via Overlay.
I'm pretty old school and use pen&paper or street level imagery like #mapillary to record ground truth and add it to OSM later on via JOSM editor. Maybe a tip to pro GIS for you? Even the website embedded 'I'd editor works well for small edits. Other tried @vespucci_editor for mobile edditing :blobcatthumbsups:
A few words about Mapilio, the new alternative to Mapillary and KartaView (competitors(?) to Google Street View), but mostly on how to download the images published there
MapRoulette welcomes TomTom as a financial backer! (openstreetmap.us)
