Does anyone in have a source that produces X-ray/gamma or beta , or know where I can visit / borrow one?

I bought a geiger counter alternative on Kickstarter, and I have no idea if it works. I could buy radioactive test material, but then I would be intentionally creating the situation I am trying to avoid: radiation in my house.

So I want to find a gamma or beta radiation source not in my house, to test my radiation detector, but I don't want to keep it.

I've lived in the area off and on since 2002, and I just don't remember the weather looking like this, constant thunderstorms. Is my memory failing me? Did I not notice in the past, because I was a computer nerd shut-in? Or does Philly have a monsoon season now, where it didn't before?

🎧 The epic remix of 's "Love is The Message" you maybe didn't know existed.

The original recording won the 1974 Grammy for "Best R&B Instrumental Performance." In 2021, John Morales created the "Philly Long Message Street Strutin' Mix" (15:20).

Ok , I need a list of restaurants that still have this winter. (Real outdoor seating, not sheds or tents that are fully enclosed.) Is there any way to search for this, or generate a list?

In this case I also need:

  • open for lunch (wow all my favorite restaurants are dinner only)
  • vegetarian food
  • that accommodates my peanut and soy allergies
  • not spicy
  • Italian cuisine with homemade pasta is my favorite, but I also like Zahav and Vedge, for instance

Friend and I have a game where we send each other pictures of food items we see on the ground. I'd been kicking her ass for years and now she's in for the weekend and completely blown me out of the water

Why were most of the cyclists in this photo wearing masks in November 1977? Was it to avoid breathing polluted air?

If so, thank goodness we have the EPA now; I hope we can address modern threats to air quality, like climate change related wildfires, rather than giving up and letting the air become difficult to breathe again.

Trying to use Twitter/X to do something simple like see how bad the roads and sidewalks are in is now entirely impossible. Every common term is coopted by a crypto spammer, search is useless.

4 months ago today I arrived in San Francisco. I’ve had a great time, made lots of new friends, but I’m on to my next thing. Tomorrow morning I’m leaving SF to begin a 10 day roadtrip to Philly. On Jan 22 I’ll start a new job working for the Biden For President campaign. I’m excited to work somewhere that’ll be fulfilling, and allow me to take pride in what I’m doing (unlike the job I had for 4 months in SF).

Here’s to SF, and here’s to new things🍾🥂👏

Had to drop Maggie off at 30th St. Station, and I was planning to run errands in Center City afterwards. I forgot that nothing opens until 9am.

Any tips for what to do in in the morning?

Hello natives! I am attending a work meeting in next week, and I've been tasked with finding a mid-range, quirky venue for a team dinner (~12 people). Requirements:

  • Outdoor space with heaters (we have people we want to accommodate)
  • Both food and (alcoholic) drink
  • Options for vegetarians
  • Near the Liberty Bell (our meeting site is near there) if possible
    Any recommendations?
    Please boost! Thanks. :boostRequest:

Please, can we ban gas powered leaf blowers in Philadelphia? https://www.quietcleanphilly.org/

I just don't want to hear them ever again. We don't have to discuss the environmental costs if we can band together simply to eliminate a really annoying noise.

Was that a couple F-16s flying over with afterburners on? I assume this has something to do with sports, and that they're not in a hurry to intercept a threat. Way too low and loud for my tastes.
