short version: we have a small set of bugs to fix and chores to do before an App Store release, and quote post UI will come after that, in version 1.8.
Quote posts—which have already been implemented in several other Fedi projects and even some Mastodon clients—are on the Mastodon roadmap for 2024.
I'm looking forward to using this feature, but even more than that I hope its arrival in mainline Mastodon will finally put paid to the obtuse and often bad-faith arguments against the feature that were rampant a year ago.
It has been zero days since someone said, “Why do you need quote posts? You can just reply and then boost the original post for context,” demonstrating a complete, profound, and probably willful lack of understanding of the value of quote tweets and how they were used.
(And also not showing a lot of situational awareness of how Mastodon itself works, either.)
"The most important point of the UAW strike imo is that unions gave benefits & compensation up when the Big 3 were filing for bankruptcy protection on the promise they would be returned, when they were profitable again. They did not keep their promise. Instead, they paid themselves more." - @LALegault
“Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshiping.”
I don't want #QuoteToots on here. At all. It is very quickly #weaponised against #minorities. It doesn't matter how "nice" you think a place is, the ability to QT can make things very ugly, very fast.
Don't believe me? Sign up for #Spoutible. Use it for a few weeks. Look for the #bigots on there. Talk about how #bigotry is wrong. In a day or so, folks will "quote spout" the crap out of you, and the #dogpiling will begin.
Please #mastodon gods, bring #quotetoots to this realm I beg. I desperately need to QT posts with thrilling commentary such as "Relatable" and "it me" :blobPleading: :blobPleading:
I'm making a prediction: the introduction of #quoteToots will do absolutely nothing to help retention or entice users to join the #Fediverse (or even just #Mastodon in particular), and it will be responsible for a significant lowering of the level of discourse.
