There's a strange trend that's been happening recently in the man-o-sphere podcasting world lately where male guests and bro-podcast-hosts from Russell Brand (in the post), Joe Rogan, and Andrew Huberman have all recently made strange confessions of faith. I have a feeling that the Christian nationalism that is trending in America is starting to suck in all of the gurus.

Surely no-one can be surprised that which is surely exemplary of 'culture' has been more lenient in its moderation of 'top' accounts... as the case has demonstrated, if you're famous the normal standards of behaviour don't seem to apply (which TikTok seems to have happily colluded with).

This is what elitism looks like!

If you get an hour and change, Then & Now is a good subscribe and this particular episode is incisive as shit not just as to how an ostensible progressive-ish person like can become sufficiently facile and up-his-own-floral-scented-ass to go full fucking fascist but how similar coagulations of personality disorders, nurtured and amplified by the validation of bad-actor (Murdochian) media he himself presumes to rail about (while an actual American neo-Nazi capitalist signs his paychecks), conditioned nearly every surly, shit-talking, malevolent twat you ever encountered who then became a Trumpista.

Fascism is truly dumb mundane insidious shit because all it has to do is say "Everything wrong with you is good and worth having Klan rallies around, we'll just call them something different."

Russell Brand has said that YouTube’s decision to demonetise him is in the ‘context of the Online Safety Bill’.

While ORG has concerns about the Bill’s powers for censorship and surveillance, it’s misleading to blame a Bill that's not yet received Royal Assent for this decision.

openrightsgroup,
@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org avatar

Our issue with the is that tech companies will have to use algorithms to decide whether content is illegal and remove it before it’s even been posted.

This isn’t about demonetisation, it’s about platforms being forced to block or take down more of your posts.

We’ll never know how many ordinary people have their content censored by the Bill once it is implemented.

Unlike it’s very likely you won’t have a high profile to raise awareness.

openrightsgroup,
@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org avatar

The Online Safety Bill grants extra protections for legacy media outlets as a ‘recognised news publisher’, like a fast-track complaints procedure if their journalistic content gets censored.

But you, the ordinary user, won’t have the right of complaint or power to appeal wrongful censorship.

openrightsgroup,
@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org avatar

So we should be very worried about the Online Safety Bill and the impact it will have on our freedom of expression.

But we shouldn’t confuse it with the chair of a non-governmental Parliamentary committee writing to a company and asking them to demonetise a particular person.

This may sound like a weird hill to choose to die on, but I'm really uncomfortable with the calls for Youtube to demonetise videos.

Firstly, we shouldn't hand the responsibility for justice to these big tech companies.

Secondly, if Brand has committed a crime I hope he is tried and jailed.

But as long as he's not profiting off his crime, he shouldn't be starved. This is the same instinct that stops poor Black ex-cons from ever finding work. And I don't like it.

This risks criminalising young people at worst, and confusing them even more at best.

The real issue is vulnerable people being preyed upon at any age, and a staggered age of consent will not prevent this. It has to be dealt with directly.

When Russell Brand started veering right and parroting talking points we hear from Rogan, Ben Shapiro and Alex Jones, I didn’t understand. He had always seemed like he leaned left before that. It didn’t seem on-brand for him, no pun intended.

Now, however, it makes total sense. He was building an audience of misogynists so he still had doting fans after this story broke. And it has worked.

jackLondon,

The idea a man with such obviously massive self-regard as was EVER left wing is laughable..... such people never accept the validity of a collective view of the world - whatever they say
