I reviewed each course, and I must say, this is the most comprehensive set of topics I've seen in a while - most have matured and are now being commercialized
Also, over a week ago the Academy announced the Scientific and Technical (SciTech) awards. Lots of #VFX, #CGI and #animation related ones: OpenVDB, Alembic, Marvelous Designer and USD. Cool that many of the people you see and hear at #SIGGRAPH are represented here. Other awards include different laser projection systems, Dolby Atmos and systems used in stunt work. Congrats to all the winners. #movies#AcademyAwards
Was pleasantly surprised yesterday. I got a notice from the post office to pick up a package even though I wasn't expecting anything. Turns out it was a copy of the #SIGGRAPH Seminal Papers vol. 2 book.

Still bummed out I didn't get an invite, Pixar being evasive about saying it was small and then it turns out it was a 2000 people event. Still trying to see if someone wants to trade an Elemental walking teapot for an older one
Now that we're more than a week past SIGGRAPH, and I know for a fact that several people who tested positive were at a crowded BOF on Thursday, unmasked, I'm curious what percentage of #SIGGRAPH attendees tested positive for #Covid and how many played the role of Covid Larry (get it?) at their studio.
Friendly reminder (or in case you are not aware), I maintain a massive #BibTeX/#BibLaTeX file with #rendering-related references. It includes all the work I've ever cited in my own papers, all recent #SIGGRAPH, #EG, and #EGSR papers, and more (some 4000 and counting). I add to it regularly.
If you use #Overleaf, there is also an easy way to add it to your projects and keep it updated (explained in the GitHub repo readme). It is one of the first files I add to any new #LaTeX project.
So this happened earlier this week at #SIGGRAPH2023. The Master of masters, the #VFX legend, the one and only Dennis Muren. Now I can (almost) die happy.
It was funny because while I was fumbling with my phone, Dennis was telling me "getting too much glare from the lights"

My #SIGGRAPH adventure begins with getting to the airport three hours before my flight - because I'm stupid - and clearing security in 5 minutes. Then after a two hour flight, it took me another two hours to get to the hotel. I haven't been to LA since before the pandemic and I hate it with every fiber of my being.
DigiPro tomorrow, then a week of talks and panels and vendor meetings and aimlessly wandering the expo.
But first, an overpriced meal at this fancy ass hotel.
Space, USD ad naseum, and Nimona if I have the spoons. Maybe some time in the expo but I've already visited the booths that interested me.
Need to find a good place to sit for three hours that has power so I can watch the USD in Production room on my phone, because I can and the tiny room they're holding it in will be insufferable.
