This week for #VGMWednesday hosted by @miona the theme is #WholesomeWaters. As an old-school #SonicTheHedgehog fan, my mind went immediately to the music from Aquatic Ruin Zone from Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive.
A bit of SSI Gold Box #CRPG action on #SegaGenesis with Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday. As with Starflight, this is a very respectable port that streamlines certain portions of the game while fleshing out others such as the ship combat having additional weapons options and ditching the first-person view in favour of a side-on JRPGesque movement system.
Sadly, the sequel, Matrix Cubed, wouldn't receive a port.
👾 To continue with the #Sonic theme from the last pic, here is my #TIGER Sonic mini-game with an i-Zone polaroid camera behind it. The camera apparently has a FM radio built into it too 🤷. 🎮
In alphabetical order (and only 1 entry per franchise) - let's go:
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Jet Set Radio
Ms. Pac-Man
Pokémon Gold
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Super Mario Land 2
Super Street Fighter II
Tetris
WarioWare Inc.: Mega MicroGames
I know I’ve been in a “retro games are great I miss those simpler times we have to go back” mood as of late, but I broke out the Mega Sg to play Columns III and Mega Bomberman with my wife and twins, and we all had a super fun time.
I really wish #MegaDrive had more casual-friendly 4-player games.
This week @miona is BACK for VGM Wednesday! Welcome back!
She comes at us with a fantastic theme of "Super Sixteen Bit."
From the Genesis / SNES era, one of my favorite beat 'em ups is Comix Zone. For those who never played, it tells the story of a comic book artist who gets pulled into his own comic by it's main villain. He then has to fight from panel to panel to survive. It's cool and has a 16-bit rock inspired soundtrack.
Guy on Facebook was selling some controllers pairs for $10 each, so I bought the #SegaGenesis and #SNES ones that he had.
I asked if he had anything else #Sega by chance, and he said he had two games: The Lion King and Tecmo Super NBA Basketball. Before I could say anything, he messaged that “they aren’t worth much, so I’ll just throw them in.”
I haven't seen a theme yet for @miona's #VGMWednesday, so as I forgot to post something for #BonusBeats last week, I'll do that this week.
But instead, I'll be bonus stage adjacent cause...I'm weird.
When you plug non-Sonic games into Sonic & Knuckles, you'll be able to play a random Bonus Stage from the main game. If you put in Sonic 1, you can do all of them. But first, a "No Way" screen pops up with some fun music. Here's that music and screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zILpjFqlOak
