I don't get it... I buy many different brands of #HomeAutomation devices from #Amazon, but despite my clear preferences they keep trying to push #TPLink to me. Can't they take the hint that I don't want it and stop bothering me? Their algorithm is either broken or biased (or both). #HomeAssistant#SmartHome
Aktion bei Lidl: Smart-Home-Küchengeräte zum Sparpreis ausprobiert
WLAN-Woche bei Lidl: Der Discounter hat seit Donnerstag allerlei Küchengeräte mit WLAN und App-Anbindung im Sortiment. Nützliche Helfer oder Schnickschnack?
Really loving this part of my Home Assistant dashboard. Thanks @motoridersd for the initial inspiration and code snippet. :)
I chart each individual sensor in addition to the average, since some vary quite a bit based on placement and accuracy. The color-coding is also nice: blue is cold, green is comfy, yellow is warm.
Reminder - I created https://github.com/unixorn/internet-of-trash as a list of things that don't work well, have had the vendor try to force you to use the cloud for something that was locally controlled, or are otherwise a pain to use with home automation.
If something is supposedly for #SmartHome but is a pain to use with home automation, please add it to the list.
The goal is to have a warning list of products to avoid, especially for people new to #HomeAutomation or #HomeAssistant .
I want to wire up a bunch of sensors throughout the #smarthome; it seems Matter is the way to go now.
What SoC do I want to buy for this? ESP32 is my go-to, but it's too heavy and power-hungry for living off of an AA battery or two for any amount of time.
As I'm more and more annoyed of the #HomePods I wonder if there is any option to add a fully local speaker that runs through #HomeAssistant but accepts #AirPlay 2.
Bonus if I could add a microphone later to use the Voice Assistant of Home Assistant in the future, but that wouldn't be the focus now, as there are options to have speaker and microphones separate.
I'm just sick of Apples updates that male the HomePods worse and worse. And I want to get rid of devices that only can be controlled via cloud.
Anyone know of a good way I can have some #selfhosted service set as an #ethernet#networking gateway which I can then toggle on/off - killing all traffic I route that way?
Yes, I am looking for an easier way of manually cutting teenager internet access.
Ok, HomeAssistant peeps, how do I make HomeAssistant not an ugly nerdy mess of stuffs? I love the idea of it and I have the extra server space, but I really like HomeKits Home app. It’s easy to use and easy on the eyes. I want to make HomeAssistant more like that. (Not trying to clone the home app but HomeAssistant, I just mean I want it prettier and a little easier to figure out as my whole family uses it.)
Die Heizung in meinem Arbeitskämmerchen schaltet sich ständig auf 20 Grad, obwohl es nirgends einprogrammiert ist. Es macht mich kirre!! Alle Automationen x Mal überprüft, da ist nichts falsch. Aaaaaaaahhhh!! Die Regler sind von Hama. Letztes Jahr ist das nicht passiert. Weiß wer Rat? #smarthome
A brilliant thread by Cory Doctorow again. This time on #enshitification of garage door openers.
I use an OpenGarage door Automator on my garage door. The firmware is open source and the device is like $35. It integrates trivially with #HomeAssistant. And it can’t be taken away by a company suddenly deciding it wants more money from me.
While I'm a stickler about the proper use of Daying Saving (no 's'), I have to hand it to Savant that this GE Sync promo is pretty clever. Even if it does feel about a week too late. #smarthome#grammar#daylightsaving
My brother texted me “what smart dimmer should I get?”
Little did he know he kicked off a multi-hour chat about Matter, Thread, LAN control, Nest, Google Home, Zigbee, hubs, border routers, controllers, HomeKit, IKEA TRÅDFRI, and XKCD 927.
PSA: If you're using Zigbee with Home Assistant and find a good deal on eBay for OSRAM A19/A60 bulbs, RUN FAR AWAY!
It turns out these lights/their firmware are trash and will just go offline constantly when too many other devices are routed through them (you know, the whole point of Zigbee bulbs with built-in routing). There's a reason sellers are trying to get rid of them in lots for as low as $2/bulb.
Looks like I got to a stable point in my #HomeAssistant journey: various sensors, devices and automation in place, backups and upgrades are painless, not much to add or change (for now).
Time to start working on niceties: better dashboards, clean up the #Zigbee noise, remove unused stuff, plan for what's next (holiday lights?).
Very happy with what I have accomplished so far. No regrets about entering this universe. It's been fun!
