@techphotoguy hmm, interesting, I just did a whole talk on the subject of #WordPress site migrations at our last local #WPGR meetup.
I'm partially surprised as this, however I question how much site migration issues are a WordPress Core issue vs a hosting or plugin issue.
I do know, from my own research & testing, that plugins used to migrate sites can have vastly different requirements and compatibility with hosting providers.
I'd be curious to hear more from @chris on some of the details.
@chris so for clarity is this a call for #WordPress Core to include it's own site migration tool internally?
As I've work with other CMSs now such as #CraftCMS & #Strapi they really don't have this solved internally either. With the vast amount of hosting platforms, some better than others,
I'm still not sure that even something in WordPress Core can solve this, especially if we are talking that both the new host and old host expected to use the same DNS name.
@ChrisHardie I would gather than many agencies consider that information "proprietary". 10up does a pretty nice job of documenting things for all to see.
Hey fellow #WordPress users, what is the easiest way of adding google fonts (locally hosted) to a #Gutenberg theme such as Davis Blocks with a free plugin? 🤔

@davidbisset@mattmedeiros I don't know how no one has encountered what I have, but my city has "web development" shops, marketing companies & ISPs that sell cheap WordPress sites, but don't have ANY programmers on staff.
#WordPress has drastically reduced web development jobs in my city.
I've used #Akismet on my #WordPress blog to block spam since its early days. The folks over at #Automattic have just informed me that I'm in violation of their license terms because the Google ads I have on it make it "commercial" so I can't use their free license.
I write on my blog for fun, and most years the ads bring in less than the cost of an Akismet license.
This is stupid and short-sighted on Automattic's part. I would have paid a reasonable price; this ain't it. Bye, Akismet.
Also, I've been waiting a month and a half for #Automattic to fix a problem with the social sharing functionality in their #Jetpack#WordPress plugin which is preventing me from linking my social accounts to my blog. In that time I've been given zero useful information and a great deal of outright wrong information by their support staff (read the ticket, it's a whopper). This does not put me in a position to be well-disposed toward giving Automattic money.
@davew I don't think #Mastodon can catch up to #twitter as a "global townhall" or a and I think #BlueSky is more likely to be a challenge long term to Twitter solely because of the Right People gravitating there, along with Founder cred.
But I'm casting my lot with #ActivityPub. Especially #wordpress.i want to return to the blogsphere of old rather than social media silos and I think we have the tools for this now.

OMG! Quick note to self: if you create a CPT in WordPress, do not create completely blank page templates as placeholders. Add something, anything in the template so you don't WSOD yourself.
You can't blame WP if you literally tell it to serve an empty page 🤦
Time to go outside for a walk and then make more coffee 😖 😂
