I think is the path, in this we do have to say NO to the "police". How this works is based on "trust" and firm foundations, and yes our only has a skeleton foundation, a good one but needs much more support, the event is for laying this support into the ground as foundations to build on.

Resource use is an issue with the codebase, it's not a on using it but is an issue to think about using a different codebase instead.

With Mastodon going down the path and wedded to feudalism as "governance" we also face these common issues for tech projects.

We make a mess in good to try different paths

Is really viable for the small to medium-sized operator?

We assert, "NO!"

We did something simple. With a Mastodon tab open we hit Ctrl+Shift+E to get the Network Tab. With an inactive thread open in Mastodon, we went to another website to read an article.

An hour passes and what we discovered shocked us. Mastodon somehow justified sending us 55MB of data. The said 55MB over 1500 requests (53MB transferred).

and the wider are native project based on the people who try to "hardern" and "secure" this are completely missing where the value is at.

They are spreading and endangering real activists acting this way.

Media is "open" useing .

Anything that is not media should use encrypted p2p chat, there are many mature projects for this.

It's clear l that we have messed up this reboot, this is a normal outcome. Ideas please to do better this time and in future reboots please.

witchescauldron, to fediverse

was an "accidental" reboot, it exists because the turned up at the meeting did not find anything useful for themselves so left the “weirdos” to get on with building a aproch. The “weirdos” manage to hold things together long enough to get the standard through the open but burocratic process and pushed it out to the world.

A whole load of non "owned" social tech projects on grassroots social subject/path of course things like this only work with shared values

And the current core standard is also needed to escape the that comes so "naturally".

I believe those that built and that have projects and or major influence within the should absolutely come together to provide education, information, stability and uniformity. Especially, as there’s this incredible growth is happening. It would clear up any misinformation. People by nature like things clearly defined. I believe with coming soon, Mozilla’s instance and those migrating from now is an opportune time.

The is a good grassroots initiative, that is "névé" and troubling as it lacks "meaning" and is running as a "hobby" project with little if any social buy in.

NOTE: no amount of technical thinking/tinkering will add "meaning" as this is a social, not a technical problem.

This also partly explanes why we have the splintering of effect here in and in the wider "protocol wars" https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/lets-talk-about-the-protocol-wars/3177

How do you grow social buy in to a project?

Fucking Christ the @protocol is the most obtuse crock of shit I've ever looked at. It is complex solely for the sake of being complex and still suffers from all of the same problems as Mastodon.

Your server goes down? Sorry, all of your followers are lost. Account portability is no better than Mastodon. 'DIDs' serve literally no purpose. And none of the API code that Bluesky uses in their own app validates ANY of the crypto they're doing on the server. NONE OF IT.

Yep, people are lifting the lid and finding smoke and mirrors - I hope we are not wasting our focus and time on Fear, uncertainty, and doubt with this.

On a positive note, the “protocol wars” - has pushed creativity in the world and siphoned off some of the worst to the other networks. Let’s keep planting spaces to become more of what we need, in the era of

The "protocol wars" on the such as , , and . That building bridges between these protocols can be a good solution, as it is a permissionless way to connect different protocols without needing to get the codebase to change their project. The protocols are all and native, which is a positive development. However, the cultures of these protocols are different and can create messiness in the discussions.
