Man the Midwest has been hammered today with tornadoes. At Omaha’s Eppley Airfield (KOMA), what looks like at least four rows of T-Hangers took a direct hit from an EF2, and wiped dozens of airplanes off the FAA registry. Man I am sad for the owners, no idea if there were injuries.
Screengrabs from #wunderground, just look at the tornado warnings!
If you sometimes struggle with mental health issues living thru the chaos we now call life, try this:
Narrow your focus to see what is right in front of you. Appreciate the good things, and deal with the bad ones.
When we focus on our bubble, we can better manage our outlook. When was the last time you stopped in front of a piece of #art in your home and just…appreciated it?
Do not ignore the world stuff. But to deal with it, we need our personal mental health to stay “in the green.” #avgeeks
In #Airline news that could make the public’s heads explode, we have this today:
"Airline starts weighing passengers at the gate.”
"In a trial by European carrier Finnair, volunteer passengers are being weighed at the departure gate in order to allow the airline to refine weight estimates for planes before takeoff.”
OK, while this data surely will help with W&B calcs, it is only a trial at this point. But if it catches on, public outcry will be Yuge.
Great reporting as usual by Dan Johnson on the first TL “Sparker” to arrive in the U.S.
"First One in the USA — Flying TL’s Luxurious, Mosaic-Ready Sparker Aircraft”
At $327,000, this is not a low-end “starter" or trainer, but a serious luxury two-seat airplane that sees cruise speeds of 165-175 knots with the Rotax 916iS.
Is is being aimed squarely at the Mosaic-ready LSA (mLSA) market.
I had someone ask what “Airplanista” means. So I went to ChatGPT for a surprisingly decent answer:
“it appears to be a term that was created by combining the words "airplane" and "fashionista," which is a slang term for someone who is passionate about fashion and style.
Therefore, an "airplanista" could be interpreted as someone who is passionate about #airplanes, air #travel, or #aviation, and perhaps also interested in the style and aesthetics of planes and the aviation industry." #Avgeeks
The miraculous evacuation of 367 passengers and 12 crew members on the Airbus A350 that burst into flames upon impact with a Japan Coast Guard plane at Haneda Airport in Tokyo has to be one of the airline industry’s biggest “saves.”
The next time the FA starts talking about safety before a flight, take off your Beats, pull out your Airbuds, STFU and LISTEN.
My 15YO granddaughter just texted and asked me to send her a pic of “my favorite airplane.” I wanted to send her 34,000 pics of all of them, but in the interest of SMS overcharges, narrowed it down to this one.
I flew with the #Duggy crew into Rock Falls, IL for the “Last Time” DC-3/C-47 reunion, and then was on the flight deck as they flew the Warbird Island arrival to RWY 27 into Oshkosh. We waved at the #avgeeks on the Ardy and Ed’s patio as we slid overhead.
This hour’s random desktop background on my #MacbookPro is this A2A shot of the Terrafugia Transition. They were way to far ahead of the “flying car” curve.
When it first came out (can’t remember the exact year), I went to Oshkosh and pitched the company on a free advertising/marketing package from my ad agency in trade for a very early slot in their order book. Thankfully, that deal never came together.
I guess the AI in my #MacbookPro random desktop background generator must have picked up that I have firefighting helicopters on the brain today. This is a 2023 Global Identification Chart from HeliOps.
One of the things my #XPlane#flightsim never got right in my opinion was the brightness of landing lights. They have always been very dim, and at night you do not see the runway until damned near over the numbers.
Last night I finally found the settings for this and tweaked my usual #Cessna 172SP so now it has very wide and bright landing lights. Not real-world, but I can see the whole runway now.
I just stumbled on metar-taf.com, which has a very user-friendly interface and a livestream of real-time WX at any reporting airport.
Not affiliated or anything, just thought I’d pass this along. Search for your airport in upper right corner. Then hit the LIVESTREAM link at top. Enjoy!
Like I do on some nights, I was digging thru my photo archives looking for something and came across a shoot I forgot about.
This was a bunch of very friendly #Seagulls in Lincoln City, #Oregon on a stormy and windy day in 2007.
It is super cool how closely our airplanes resemble these birds. They curve their wings to create slats and flaps for additional lift, and fan their tails to slow down, like a speed brake.
