Time to move off has finally come. So many to choose from, though. Makes my head spin 😵

I need one with:

  1. Great support (maybe get that webcam working finally)

  2. Smooth & slick / (I'm less of a terminal guy)

  3. Focus on , security-first approach (but not the ones that are made for James Bond)

What do you suggest?

I just rebased to bluefin-dx:40 following the discussion here: https://universal-blue.discourse.group/t/bluefin-f40-beta-builds-now-available/967/3

I pinned my current config with this :
sudo ostree admin pin 0

and ran the rebase command:
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bluefin-dx:40

After downloading 2GB+ of data, it committed the change and it asked for a reboot it. The laptop rebooted and I was greeted with the login page.

The upgrade to #Fedora 40 with the magic dust of #bluefin
was very smooth.

This is my second time upgrading on #FedoraSilverblue , did the same thing from #F38 to #F39 and the experience was the same smooth and hassle free.

A security vulnerability was discovered in rpm-ostree, which Bluefin and Bazzite use as custom images of Fedora Atomic Desktops. Please see below for the latest on the fix: https://universal-blue.discourse.group/t/updates-needed-cve-2024-2905/1053

Big thank you to @dogphilosopher for an update to flatpaks on Bluefin. Now flatpaks can be preinstalled from the ISO rather than having to download them on first boot in order to provide the intended experience. That means @thunderbird on the dock by default!

Awesome step forward for us to be able to bring you intended apps by default without straying from @flathub

If you can help with testing the new ISOs, please see below for instructions.

It’s very cool Bluefin have managed to get homebrew working in an rpm-ostree environment without host path conflicts.

https://universal-blue.discourse.group/t/bluefin-is-feature-complete/703

I always thought homebrew would be perfect for atomic Linux but ran into the same issues. Today, on Silverblue, I run Rust-based CLI apps installed with cargo and/or, less favourably, Go apps. I only use a container when I have to build something from source.

So, yeah, I’ll be keeping an eye on Bluefin. They seem to get it.

Now that we have fully offline ISOs can ship with @thunderbird right on the dock, as intended. Looks great, and I love the ptyxis icon so much lol.

Been curious about what it's like to use Bluefin? Here's a quick tour of it, walking through some of the main changes we make to Silverblue!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_yyyUMecwo

For more stability, the Bluefin custom image defaults to GTS (grand touring support), meaning that we hang back one release of Fedora. It brings stability in general, but specifically to all the GNOME extensions we use.

Bluefin is feature complete!

Between some tweaks to brew, the implementation of offline ISO installers, and moving to grand touring support by default, we're cruising toward the release of Fedora Linux 40 to come out of beta.

There is still one more exciting change that is being considered for down the line, but overall we're ready to go. 🏎️
