Out of my own curiosity, does Fediverse have a capacity limit problem?
I have always asked myself since joining (and seen with popularity of servers have problems with influx), will popularity kill small servers? Will only "serious" hosts survive? How does this play to fediverse/activitypub integrations?
(I am not trolling, seriously asking for information and feedback.)
Lots of reports about how #datacenter operators/#hyperscalers are working on huge #capacity#expansions because of the sudden demand for #AI model-building (and to a lesser extent, inference usage). i.e.
That one suggests capacity will triple over the next 6 years. Triple!
Easy #prognostication: in 2 or 3 years, when many companies realize "AI" isn't helping them much, they'll cut back. All that spare capacity makes #cloud#prices plummet...

I'm not even sure it would be possible to install a SuperCharger there. The whole town's current #electricity#supply is probably only a few hundred kW - the existing #infrastructure probably does not have the excess #capacity for a single 150kW charger, much less a pair of them.
#ArianeGroup 🇪🇺 was so #desperate to ensure the #Susie concept stood out that it proposed recovering the #spacecraft propulsively. To enable this kind of recovery, the spacecraft would be required to launch with a large reserve of propellant ⛽ that would not be necessary if it was being recovered with a parachute 🪂 system. In a vehicle like the #SpaceX#Starship upper stage, this fuel spend can be mitigated by its huge #capacity. However, in a vehicle as small as Susie, this tradeoff becomes more than a little hard to swallow. The US 🇺🇸 #SpaceShuttle was the product of this same kind of extreme #compromise which, in the end, ensured that it was not capable of delivering on its most important #capabilitieshttps://europeanspaceflight.substack.com/p/funding-arianegroups-susie-concept
