There's a photography technique I use that I never see anyone else do so it's time I share it. I use it to capture action shots of people... typically dancing.
Most people would handle these situations by zooming in, spraying and praying, or being exceedingly patient for that ONE shot to materialize.
Those strategies were too unreliable for me so I learned to move with my subjects.
I pre-focus the lens for a set distance, wide-angle, full manual, and set the camera against my cheek. I move the camera only by moving my feet. If my subject twists, I twist. If they step toward me, I step back so they stay in focus.
Because I’m not using any viewfinder, my peripheral vision is good. You immerse yourself in the scene. When it feels right you shoot blind. With practice, your shots will line up.
You obviously will need good balance and confident footwork for this. I'm reaching back on years of Shaolin Kung Fu. If you've done dance or martial arts, you can get the hang of this.
Ah, it's nearly 4.30 on a Friday afternoon, I am declaring the weekend open with week 21 of the Sparkly Rainbow Dancers.
This week's new dancer did a preview earlier in the week, but is joining the squad with a shorter version, because getting them all to loop in time is becoming something I have to think about.
Week 29 of adding a dancer a week & this is becoming absolute CHAOS. On reflection the hats & bells have not helped calm it down, but not to worry.
So time to wish everyone a very happy weekend, & if you celebrate Christmas I hope your festivities are exactly what you want, & if you don't celebrate I hope your non-festivities are exactly what you want.
We've made it to week thirty-five, and I didn't expect them to be attempting the can-can but it's all about self expression. If that's what they want to do, they can give it a go.
As always, have an excellent weekend, if you possibly can (can) 😀
Week 26 of the sparkly rainbow Friday dancers. TWENTY SIX?! That's half a year.
I have no excuse.
Also no further comment for this one, except sometimes, when your dancers have bendy limbs rather than jointed ones, and no waist, some things really don't work as well as you hoped.
To be fair that could probably have been said the previous 25 times as well.
Anyhoo... as ever, have a good weekend, if you possibly can.
Also, time for one final call for the #xmasHatting project for the season. If you have a pet you'd like to see in a Santa hat post a photo in the replies and I'll festive them up as best I can over the next couple of days 🐱 🐶 🎅
I have been tied up with work today, and have a few chores to go and do now, but I couldn't let the first year of our things.uk Mastodon instance go by without making a little something for it.
It's our tootiversary!
Lovely to be here, and thank you for making me so welcome 😊
It's that time* again... week 14 of the sparkly rainbow dancers welcoming the weekend with a wee boogie. Have a good one!
strictly speaking 3.20pm is probably a bit early, but I've done everything I need to do and it's very hot, and that's good enough for me to declare the weekend open
It's the weekend lovelies. Hope yours is as good as it can be.
For week 22 of the Friday Sparkly Rainbow Dancers I've slacked a bit in terms of the dance move (not for the first time, tbh), but they've all got colourful snuggly jumpers on.
I've got to do something about the Friday dancers. Adding one a week is chaos. There's either a mass of overlapping flailing limbs or the dancers are TINY.
Ah. Shame. You going to archive the first thirty away & start a new one?

I said, are you going to...
Yeah, yeah, we've been here before, I know what you said.
What happened to dancing at weddings?
I was born and raised in America, and for some reason I have this classic notion in my head that people should be dancing at weddings....
