How do you all manage to travel on European Sleeper or Nightjet? Every time I try to book a ticket it's at least 200€ one way. Where's the catch?

@mario Let's see... I booked my February tickets exactly 3 months in advance. That's low season though.

Now in for my ferry.

The was uneventful. The from Berlin was fun: I made a new friend, joined the birthday party of our 3 yo compartment mate, had long chats with the train manager who used to be a regular 10 years ago.

Apparently / has some good things coming soon, in time for the summer season. Newly renovated wagons and whatnot.

Good morning from the night train Berlin - Brussels. I simply love night trains, for so many reasons: They are a very efficient way to travel between European cities, they make sense in a lot of ways, and there is a magic about travelling like 700-1000 km while sleeping (or at least resting 😉), that fascinates me since I was a kid. The future of European mobility should belong to night trains!!

Does anyone have any experience with the new European Sleeper night train running between Brussels and Berlin? Is it reliable and neat? @sebwilken @jon

A wonderful turnaround since it was less than a decade ago that most European countries got rid of their night trains

If you're not already aware, this is one of three bike compartments on the new (since May) that runs between Brussels, Amsterdam and Berlin.
Space for about 50 bikes on each journey.

Another view of same carriage, two more bikes with both wheels on the floor, in racks with space for 6.

We made it on the , as I'm travelling alone I with a dog I have to get a private cabin. Opted for seats. The man in seat 61 advised against it, but with this amount of space I'll gamble on it.

So far the cabin is quiet and warm. All windows are open now, so it should cool down swiftly

Can you travel from to by ?

AVE Seville-Madrid at 6:40 AM
Train has become the default way of travelling this route.

-Barcelona. 3 operators serve this line (, , )

-Paris, high-speed service, 7 hours-trip.

Reaching at 21:18. But the last Paris-Brussels leaves at 21:15... from another station.

Potentially a 15-hour trip, bad connections force you to spend the night en route. No

rafa_font,
@rafa_font@mastodon.online avatar

@cessie yes! There were several night services that were discontinued by RENFE arguing that they were not profitable (or not profitable enough?)

It's painful to look at how many were removed!

I guess you'll welcome the connection from Amsterdam to Barcelona once it's active?

Night trains are still waiting for their big break.

As an attractive alternative to car or air travel to minimise carbon dioxide emissions, night trains are making a comeback in Europe. But the big bang their fervent advocates had hoped for is running up against numerous economic and industrial hurdles.

I bought a few shares because their success would help me . (Also, how cool is it to own a [lease, fraction of]?)

It's a high risk investment. No profits expected for years with favourable track prices. No membership/voting rights under 26 k€ invested. Check bylaws etc. in "legal" and "community" tabs.
