...... I'm confused by where exactly you need to put your phone on these.

Unless they are the new qi wireless 2 standard which I highly doubt, there should be indications where the actual charging coils are

Flatpaks are really outrageous in size...I have tried to use flatpaks for the past months but man o man....hundreds of MB for each package, takes forever to update them even on my 1GB internet connection. The idea is great, but this is such a huge downside that I cannot see how it is going to make the flatpaks easier to use than normal packaging.

Look at this for ungoogled chromium:

Had to download around 4-5 GB....insane!

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@futureisfoss @florke64 @tio easy of use. Flatpaks are much easier to use for the average 'new to linux' user. Plus they actually have a proper permission system (flatseal) unlike native packages.

The Event Horizon Telescope org. just released this swirling "image" of Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole (SMBH) at the center of our galaxy. The spiral lines in the composite image is based on measurements of polarized light emitted by surrounding plasma and highlights the magnetic field around the black hole.

The spiral structure is a result of the strong magnetic field around the black hole, which is caused and shaped by the swirling plasma.

Wow! Affinity are obviously listening to their market! I just got an email stating a 4 point pledge. Part 1 is the most important and includes this:

"If we do offer a subscription, it will only ever be as an option alongside the perpetual model, for those who prefer it. "

Hurrah!!!

Well done Affinity!

Since there is no YouTube Rewind anymore, we need a Mastodon Rewind.

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@ErikUden I get the idea but I don't think it's possible.
For honestly the same reason why Youtube Rewind no longer works.

There are too many different creators and too many things going on a given time, there is no way to create a Rewind where everyone/everything feels represented and people would actually be happy about.

Plus side of getting a Roomba: It works well. Convenience.

Downside?: Having a 3 in 5 chance of it activating hide and seek mode in the middle of the night and now you get to check every curtain, odd corner, and low furniture piece to find out where it gave up trying.

I write a lot of notes in (@obsidian) where I mention fediverse handles in the @username@domain.tld format.
I always want to link it to their profile so I manually change it to @username@domain.tld (or whatever the form of url the software they are using is) I feel like there should be a simple way to solve this with an Obsidian plugin that resolves names or maybe some RegEx userscript macro would be easier? Anyone have a solution to my silly problem?

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@douginamug @liaizon not yet, best thing you can do is bookmark it and check it later.

Or Actually: you could also use the remindme bot by replying to this post but making reply only visible to people mentioned, remove liaizon and add the remindme command https://mstdn.social/@remindme

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@liaizon Same, although I usually mainly mention them in my People notes but it would still be useful to have this yeah

btw it's best to use instead of @ obsidian cause then people following the Obsidian hashtag will find the post

I feel like I have more trust in people from Fedi than the average internet user.
So what I was wondering: what if there was a way to highlight/filter reviews from people I follow on fedi.

Don't ask me the specifics of HOW this would work. Maybe it would just have to be on it's own service. Like a federated review platform or something. (currently only exists for books I think like @bookwyrm and there's @mangroveReviews for websites/places/books ) :boost_ok:

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@mangroveReviews
But seeing products/services/websites/places recommended by fedi people would be nice, def people I specifically follow or followers of followers.

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@pietervdvn
I mean.... It would mean that @mangroveReviews needs to somehow be able to link to any thing.

Technically websites and places are already covered. So I guess product reviews are left. And while you could have a system that works using EAN codes, it doesn't really work because there are many cases of products having multiple EAN numbers. Or simply products from etsy and such that don't have EAN numbers.

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@pietervdvn
So I'm not really sure how you would group reviews of abstract things like that

I just saw that Mozilla is retiring the Mozilla Location Service which provides an open, crowdsourced alternative to proprietary location services from Google and other vendors. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

https://github.com/mozilla/ichnaea/issues/2065

This is used by GNOME and thus Fedora, Ubuntu, Endless OS, etc. to help provide OS-level location services without requiring every app to implement its own. And apparently a patent troll is part of the reason Mozilla stopped investing in it. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@gnomelibre @cassidy @openstreetmap @osm_fr honestly OSMF barely has the money to maintain it's current services/tasks let alone having to take this over. It's kind of out of scope of the OSM project as well.

@organicmaps is looking at taking it over maybe. It'd still prefer mozilla, but it's better than some other alternatives: https://github.com/mozilla/ichnaea/issues/2065#issuecomment-1997027051

Ah. Despite FlixBus having messed up their live information for my Amsterdam-Berlin trip last week, theyโ€™re not paying a cent compensation because itโ€™s โ€œVerschuldens des Fahrgastesโ€ (responsibility of the passenger, ie me)

Thatโ€™s a peculiar formulation of โ€œwe sent you incorrect information and why did you possibly act on it?โ€

Edit: @partim gave me an idea: request the refund via the automatic system. I have, and it went through. Maybe this works?

thibaultmol,
@thibaultmol@en.osm.town avatar

@jon I didn't need more reasons to never use Flixbus, but thx! XD
