Browsing #Podfic shows and some of these are recorded like an audio drama, some are recorded like a full cast audiobook that is comparable to the mainstream audiobook publishers. I can’t wait until the rest of the #Audiobook community starts exploring audio fiction in the podcast space. Not only will it save you money, but it will open your eyes to hard-working talented authors that isn’t given respect. Habe schon sehr gute Fanfiction gelesen. Da ich Bücher/Serien etc. binge, wenn es mich richtig packt, und am Ende meist noch mein Interesse weiter besteht, auch wenn es eigentlich vorbei ist, bin ich auch sehr happy, dass es das gibt. Ich habe Anne Rice nie verstanden.
Also ich hab ja seinerzeit meine "Schreibkarriere" bei Fanfiktion.de gestartet😅 (mit Fanfiction zur Spartacus-Serie und sonstigem Römer-Content). Klar gibts da auch jede Menge schweinisches (und leider oft nicht die gute Sorte schweinisch...🙈) und weirdes Zeug (ich sag nur Harry Potter Fanfiction😬), aber tatsächl auch ganz gute Werke dazwischen. Danach suchen lohnt sich imo :)

Ich habe einige Freundinnen, die sehr, sehr gute Fanfiction schreiben. Hab mich (und sie) oft gefragt, warum sie nicht lieber "was Eigenes" schreiben und als Buch veröffentlichen.
Tja, nun stecke ich selbst in der Fanfiction-Falle. Letztes Jahr erschien mein Karl-May-Pastiche "Das Herz des Donnervogels". Und ich grübele nun über einen weiteren "May"-Roman nach ...
@jscholes Considering real life newspaper articles these days? The best way to make them realistic would be to make sure the first paragraph either has spelling errors or read like an AI spat them out. XD
The worst thing in #fanfiction is when the author puts spoilers in the chapter titles. When I move between or just peak to see how far I have to go, I see those and it often ruins things that I wish weren't ruined.
Well, you'd think #AI and #generativeAI like #DALL·E wouldn't be a problem for #fanfiction and #fanart, where you can't own the IP or sell it, but you'd be wrong. People posing as fan artists and LoRa's and artist style stealing are all in the article. The fandom is #MLP. There are links to other related issues.
Before long AI will be feeding off AI. In a homogenizing feedback loop. Without real artists, it will cannibalize itself. It reminds me a bit of Jack Vance's "Dying Earth" backstory.
Eventually, we will have a secondary market for craft artists, like we have one for craft beer. An alternative to bland mass-produced cheap goods.

We easily forget that the community we choose is different from that of the general population. My community on #Mastodon includes the masto-cognoscenti, #writers, #authors, #artists, #photographers, the #autistic, #neurodivergent, people into #SF, #fantasy, and #fanfiction, as well as political activism. Your community probably varies from mine, as does your follow list.
We see the world differently.
Why does it feel like the voting public is so easily swayed or conned by bad candidates or bad ideas? Not all people think way we do, or the way our chosen communities do. The above quote is from the linked article.
Keeping this all in mind, this insight provides...
a basis for strategies to change how the public thinks. We can't expect our arguments to work for them, nor that they're listening to the channels we use to promote our ideas
a reason to re-humanize our thinking about the 99% who, gasp, aren't stupid after all. Instead they're struggling, occupied making life work, or simply disinterested. We can let go of our anger and think rationally.
