🆕 blog! “Rebuilding FourSquare for ActivityPub using OpenStreetMap”

I used to like the original FourSquare. The "mayor" stuff was a bit silly, and my friends never left that many reviews, but I loved being able to signal to my friends "I am at this cool museum" or "We're at this pub if you want to meet" or "Spendi…

Ah, looks like it's geolocate Super Bowl Commercial season again! I never watch the game, but geolocated every single ad last year...

ai6yr,

Volkswagen 2024 commercial (teaser available only now). Busy street scene is 40.75342,-73.9804... 505 5th Avenue, New York, NY. Street has changed and no longer looks the same. Interestingly enough, this was back when the VW Beetle was a Nazi car.

Facebook page devoted to "Bickford's Restaurant" showing the same building in 1939.

Time for another puzzle, this time from a bike trip when I was something like 18 or 19.

No complex multipart challenges here. Just figure out where I was.

CW guesses or solutions to avoid spoilers.

Flash flooding in Pago Pago (which apparently is covered by the National Weather Service) (Wondering if anyone in Pago Pago is actually on the Fediverse?)

ai6yr,

Ha, click on a random location and get a disaster and geolocation in one. Here's that spot in Pago Pago in 2009. -14.27290,-170.70339

@crassuck You know this, but for the benefit of the peanut gallery, geolocation to 34.14288072,-118.89240868 -- I should go calculate the exact day/time based on the location of the sun.

I wanted to try the default mastodon social instance to get the hang of it - and I know there’s all kind of specific-interest ones like for art, music, tech, games, etc. but does anyone out there have some recommendations for other decent, all-purpose ones?

The same holds true for anyone into posting pornographic materials. Many sites have a rather "Puritan" approach and even a pic of bare female breasts might get you suspended (think of being in 's 😉). On the other hand, there are many instances that allow porn videos.

There are more things to consider, e.g. the of the provider ("collaboration" with national law enforcement, just imagine you'd a pregnant, under-age..
