I’m looking for fediverse accounts to follow for inspiration in my new leisure interest: #knitting#socks. I’ve made two pairs so far and am looking for help and style variations, as well as tips to improve my technique.
@ellane Here are a whole bunch of hashtags to check out. Not all relevant to socks but all are fiber arts related. Welcome to this wild and woolly world!
A small collection of my handspun yarn, wool or wool blended with silk or alpaca. The gold was dyed with onion skins, and the rust was dyed with sandalwood. The rest are synthetic dyes.
A terrific "deadstock" yarn and notions resource... High end fashion industry overage, mostly from Italy. Some gorgeous options here, and fun buttons too!!
My new (old) Bulgarian #spindles arrived! This is will be my first time in a while to do supported spinning on pure wood ones - usually I prefer those with a metal tip, for better wear. I got these off of Etsy - with where I'm located, sourcing this sort of thing is still best done there. I thought I was fully sorted on my spindle collection and then... of course I lost one. 2nd pic: my current in-progress. Yes, I'm back on fine lace spinning! #HandSpinning#YarnSpinning#SpindleSpinning#FiberArts
#WIPWednesday This is going to be a shrug for my partner's mother. The color is not quite accurate, it's more of a lilac. I spun the yarn from a merino silk blend. It bloomed so much more than I expected, I was trying for sport weight, but the recipient is always cold, so this will be fine. #knitting#handspinning#handmade
A while ago, I posted a sample of yarn I spun with fur combed from my two floofy cats. I've decided to blend it with some wool. This is a sample of floof with white Jacob wool in the pattern called "cat paws," from which I plan to make a variation of the 10 stitch blanket. Now I just have to do some abrasion testing to see how much it will pill. I fear it will pill badly, but we'll see. #handspinning#handmade#catsofmastodon
🧶 It's done! Yarn re-skeined on swift from ball I wound months ago, washed in Eucalan, dried thoroughly (it fluffed up, so nice!), re-wound just now into a ball.
Look at how nice this yarn turned out! I had this fiber for years because I wasn't confident enough in my color handling skills, but I finally reached a point where I was more confident and I am proud of the end result #handspinning
Grace's glorious tail feathers. They're asymmetrical, much longer on the right side. She's a slinky little feather boa of a cat. In addition to being the feline love of my life, she is also a generous provider of cat wool for me to spin. #cat#catsofmastodon#handspinning#fiberarts
Basket o' handspun. This is from a Tunis sheep named Lovely. It's currently single ply. I think I'm going to triple-ply it for cushy-soft knitting purposes.
Fun new spinning project: I separated a bag of neon-splotched fiber by color as best I could, broke those colors down into smaller strips, and I'm just pulling them out of the bag at semi-random. My goal is to chain-ply and line the colors up as much as possible. I think it's looking good so far! #handspinning
NEW! To me, anyway... from the FutureFiber channel on #YouTube. Soooo funny! And clever. Are you in the chicken nugget at 3am quadrant of summer? Find out here!... "An unhinged summer knitting review."
Happiness! I have stress-tested my little sample by rubbing it vigorously while it was bone dry, and to my delight, it felts instead of pilling. I was worried because these kitties' fur pills up on all our clothing, but I think the wool is going to provide some discipline. Now I can proceed with my spinning project, and then onto the knitting. #knitting#cat# catsofmastodon #handspinning#wool
🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺 Don't miss the wonderful tale <heh heh> of Wally, the rescued Tibetan mastiff, especially part 2/3rd way through when she removes Wally's pelt. Incredible!!
I wonder if it's the same for sheep, alpacas, llamas, goats, etc. What a great dog!

This is me spinning some tussah silk on my espinner. Isn't it gorgeous?! It reminds me of the picture of that glossy horse that looks like spun sugar. #spinning#handspinning#handmade#handcraft
Yesterday I started knitting again after years of not knitting a single stitch. I forgot how much I love it. 😁🧶
All the stitches came back to me as soon as I picked the needles up again. I didn't have to look up how to do any of it, I guess it must be muscle memory. 👀 :knitting: :ablobcatknitsweats:
I filled up a bobbin for the first time! This one is some BFL I am pretty sure I bought when I still lived in TX. (So, old) woo! #handspinning#spinning
