As an escape from mundane technical things today, I've built a galette with pear, strawberry and marzipan. We'll see how this comes out.

Fun to build and I like the free form nature of these sort of panless pies or monster tarts if you wish. Mostly an excuse to eat pastry.

The same disk of pastry but now the edges are folded up partially covering the fruit . There are little bits of marzipan in there too for extra fun.

This is us next week. At Beau Vista orchards the early apples (Tom Putt) and Dyer’s Perry pears are ready for harvesting and fermenting into TeePee Cider. Early this year due to ideal grow conditions from Spring onwards . Woodcut by Chris Wormell

I couldn't leave my theme behind without posting a picture of some of our . However, I couldn't decide whether to go with or , so I've ended up with both.
On the left, we have Russet apples, and those are Conference pears on the right.
'Russeting' is the "partial or complete coverage of a fruit with rough patches of greenish-brown to yellowish-brown colour". Both these varieties exhibit 'russeting'.

Pan roasted pears for tonight's salad.

I wasn't careful enough with the spatters and now have a little blister on my wrist.

It's for a simple but quite filling salad of romaine, watercress, cucumbers, spiced pecans, and a balsamic vinaigrette.
