I’m looking for fediverse accounts to follow for inspiration in my new leisure interest: #knitting#socks. I’ve made two pairs so far and am looking for help and style variations, as well as tips to improve my technique.
@ellane Here are a whole bunch of hashtags to check out. Not all relevant to socks but all are fiber arts related. Welcome to this wild and woolly world!
Not quite dry yet in this photo, but here's a peek at my results from dye class at Knitted Wit / Craft Emporium today!
We learned 3 different techniques and I bought an extra skein just to make a rainbow. I'm definitely going to try their "giggling" technique again at home. If you're in #pdx they've got another class coming up that still has spaces and I highly recommend it!
A dress I sewed years ago and wore often - which tragically got a coffee stain on the light blue front! Stain removers failed and it sat unworn until I got the chance to dye over the top! I tied off the waistband & skirt in a plastic bag, and tried to match the ice dye colors to the skirt as best I could. Happy with how it turned out! Secret: there's little elephants printed on the skirt if you look close enough! #sewing@sewing#upcycle#TieDye#IceDye#dyeing

Reserved our spots a long while ago - for a #chusen#dye#factory#tour
This is in #Sakai south of #Osaka but away from the other places we'd visited* a few times. So a different set of trains & a bit of a walk (nice sunny morning with cool weather).
We'd seen info on chusen and #tenugui at the Sakai traditional crafts museum - that had nice displays and videos. But we wanted to dig a bit deeper, especially for the kids to see

Here's a 28 s vid with a few stills first to show the dye being poured and then the vacuum to pull the dye through the fabric layers in the #chusen#dyeing process

(I found out later the cloth is pretreated with baking (not washing) soda) the dye fixes immediately and the cloth is washed right after to remove the paste and washed - by hand and then a roller mechanism that swishes and rolls do the whole length of the cloth gets washed. Some amazing fixer - look at that white! Centrifuge dryer before wringing and then final drying.
Hey I'm Alicia, an artist who really hasn't been feeling social media lately (especially IG and FB) so I thought I'd try Mastodon out and see if I like the simplicity of it more. I think I picked the perfect server, since I'm much more likely to be in my sunny garden than anywhere else. :BlobCat_Love: 🌞
Two years ago & new to the area, I volunteered on some local walks as part of the textile festival, WOVEN in Kirklees. A conversation I had on one of those walks has directly led my life down a different path that I could have ever predicted & spawned a new career.
Two years on, I've helped put together this year's festival. We launched on Saturday with a day long fashion + music fest in Dewsbury (exhausting fun!) and this week, I'm helping to install a #Quilting exhibition in #Huddersfield.
There are 100+ events happening, the vast majority of which are free: workshops, talks, walks, exhibitions, working mill tours...
The #Quilting exhibition includes political craftivism, quilts made collaboratively by local communities, and work by artists - both traditional and abstract. Gorgeous work!
Lots of natural #dyeing and fun repair sessions too.
