In the following post, I have returned to the story of Polly Maya's - a young girl tragically murdered by the people who should have loved her. Polly means an awful lot to me, so it's a privilege to share her story

Today is the 227th birthday of John 'Mad Jack' Mytton. His life was characterised by excess and unpredictability. He rode bears and fought miners, a thunderous roar tearing across the pages of Shropshire's history.

Happy birthday, Jack 🎂

Today is the anniversary of the mining disaster that took the lives of the 'The Nine Men of Madeley'. Most were still young boys. I've rewritten my article to bring light to this Shropshire tragedy and discuss its impact on the community.

In Wrockwardine and other parts of Shropshire, glass balls were blown and hung outside of windows and houses. They were known as witch balls and were meant to protect the household against witchcraft and bewitchment. 💀

In St Michael's churchyard, in Madeley is a very important grave. It's that of Charles Arthur Turner - a boy who died whilst playing in the industrial landscape. This is a sad but very important story, which you can read below ~

Today is the anniversary of Ann Morgan's death. It's a poignant day for me, as after 2 years, Ann seems as familiar as family, yet distant, shackled by the limitations of the past. I've done my best to reclaim her personhood. I hope I've made her proud.

If you can, take a moment to think of her today and remember women like her, who society has tried to erase. She was more than folklore allows her to be. 💚

NEW POST

My latest post discusses the remarkable Nanny Morgan, whose legacy has been obscured by folklore. A victim of stereotyping in life and death, she deserves to be better understood. This article is the sum of about 2 years of research. I've completely rewritten it to reflect this. I really hope you enjoy this lengthy but important post.

NEW POST

My latest post discusses the remarkable Nanny Morgan, whose legacy has been marred by folklore. She was a fascinating woman who didn't deserve her fate, who suffered stereotyping in both life and death. She deserves to be remembered as a person rather than a witch. I've completely rewritten this article to reflect new research. I really hope you enjoy this lengthy but important post.

I visited Lilleshall Abbey again today as I'm currently writing about it. A strange atmosphere drowned the ruins, shapes moved in the shadows, and a heaviness pervaded. It's a very spooky place 🌿

St Laurence's Church in Ludlow is home to a chilling apparition. indeed, it is said that a tall, elderly woman wearing a old fashioned dressing gown is seen running around the graveyard after dark. As she weaves between the graves, she is occasionally heard screaming.

I'm currently writing up my new research about Nanny Morgan after finding her burial records and other key facts regarding her death. She has become an important focus of my research for some time now.

This woman was so much more than the 'wicked witch of folklore'. She was remarkable, and I want nothing more than to piece together her story. I can't wait to share the revised blog post! ✨️
