    Today is the day of indigenous resistance in my country, it commemorates the fight of pre-Hispanic peoples against the Spanish colonizers... Sadly, although that fight is commemorated, our indigenous peoples are oppressed, displaced, murdered and sick, mostly from venereal diseases.

    In the south of my country it is not uncommon to see indigenous people working in mining to survive; many abandoned their traditions in order to survive these times of change. There are indigenous governments in the south, armed, organized and in conflict with government forces, which clearly surpass them in budget and resources. What is experienced there is simply saddening.

    The indigenous peoples of Venezuela continue to be displaced today and it is not unusual to see them on the streets asking for money, or in small urban communes... It is sad to see how we turn our backs on such affected sectors in our country, and despite All political, cultural and social changes continue to exist and continue to fight in their own way to survive. In a certain way, indigenous resistance never ended and continues to this day. It's something to think about.
