@AbandonedAmerica Ditto Illustrator and Indesign. I still can't select a point in Illustrator on the first go >50% of the time and leaving Bridge running for more than an hour sends my fan into overdrive. But look - AI fill! Just make a product that goddamn works.

Switch is in for the soon-to-be 9yo’s birthday. A question: is the Switch as awful as PS5s and such, in that you need bloody ages to set the thing up and download a billion GB of updates? Or can it be given to her box fresh?

Also, an recommendations for games from the current sale for her or, er, me would be fun. (I’ve spotted Tetris Effect, Mr Driller, Scribblenauts, Shredder’s Revenge, and a few racers.)

@craiggrannell I think it's pretty light on the updates - we got two for Christmas so not that long ago. I don't remember it being too painful.

My 8 yo and 10 yo's favourite game is Animal Crossing New Horizons, which they love as they can play together, visiting each other's islands. Mario Kart, Switch Sports (obvs) and Overcooked are family multi-player faves.

@craiggrannell Definitely worth looking at the Nintenodo online sale, too. You can get some real bargains. We picked up Overcooked for about £2 and have had hours of shouty fun trying (failing) to get the family to work as a team.

Mind you, there's some real stinkers in there, too so definitely do some research before clogging up your console. 😂

@craiggrannell What I'd like to get is a 4 player co-op type adventure, AD&D-like thing. Like Diablo but more family friendly and at least a little more cerebral. 4 player Skyrim, basically. Grateful if you've any ideas on that front.

    @Hey_Beth @Teri_Kanefield Really? Wow. That's iinteresting and bodes well for the next election. It show that there are lines.

    I don't think that the hush money payments case will moved the needle for many but being a sex criminal, likely rapist*, concealing documents, mounting an insurrection and getting convicted of seditious conspiracy, will be lines for many.

    *don't get me wrong - I believe E. Jean, just putting myself in a Trump supporter's shoes a bit.

    Using websites in 2023 without an Ad blocker is like wrestling an octopus. Entirely unusable.

    From an accessibility standpoint I fail to see how it’s not illegal. So many things steal focus from assistive technologies.

    I challenge you to spend a day trying to use the web without seeing what’s on the screen, with only what your OS provides. And no ad blocker.

    Or with only voice controls, or any other assistive tech. If more organisations did this, they’d soon see how actively hostile they’re being to those with accessibility needs.

    Accessibility should be part of the design, testing, QA, and UAT for your website or product.

    And don’t give me “but how do smaller organisations manage that?” - if this were law, within 6 months you could get off the shelf themes for WordPress or Wix or Bootstrap that manage it all for you.

    It’s not a technical problem. It’s political will.

    I heard a story recently about a council in Australia who could afford saplings but couldn't afford a crew to plant them around the neighbourhood. So I stead they just left them outside to get 'stolen'. Pretty soon, everyone had fruit trees in their gardens. I don't know if this is true but I hope it is. 😁

    Everyone at home is sick with fevers & coughs except me today. It would be completely irresponsible & a dereliction of duty for me as a close contact for whatever it is my family are carrying to not reduce the potential exposure to my patients by 100 fold by wearing a fit-tested particulate filtering respirator whilst at work.
    This is a permanent change to my practice & should be for all healthcare workers going forward.

    @futurebird hey... A friend just asked a question on a group chat. He saw two different ant nest openings about three feet apart, with ants pouring out of each and forming a "4-ant deep carpet roiling with purpose."

    He posted this video (I legit can't see anything, but my eyes are terrible) and I thought, "I follow someone who knows about ants!" Any idea what this behavior is?

    Is it too optimistic of me to sense the very beginnings of a turning tide? Between Trump being held accountable (somewhat) for the first time and George Santos in custody, I wonder if justice is finally beginning for those who deserve it.
