I'm relative new in Python and still struggle with some basic logic. I've searched for an answer already, but the examples/solutions are mostly outdated or too complex for my understading.

Can someone give me an quick up to date example how to check if "any object is selected" and return a True or False then, or "do something" if True.

Thank you a lot!

Something like this:

if anyobjectseleted():
do this
else:
do that

A strong statement by Robert Rioux, also known as 'Blender Bob,' with which I completely agree. Think about it. 🙂

Started a new sculpting project in Blender Sculpt Mode.

I love SDF modeling, but I also like to remain adroit in traditional 3D sculpting. Both techniques have their own charm.

In this stage I'm determining the global shapes and add some crude first details.

More'll follow soon.

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@metin Do you have a special reason to sculpt the figure in one peace? I always try to divide all objects to keep control over them and get better gaps later when melting them together. I your example I would start separated. Nose, ears, eyes, hair, chest, arm parts, etc. All separate. At the end, I join and melt them together. I like this way because it gives more freedom in sculpting. So I can always change the size of the nose or ears, at any time.

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@metin I was just curious. There're different ways to work. Just for "doodling around" this is definitely a good option. I like the seperated way, because it provides faster results and I save time. 🙂

Tried Leiapix's automatic depth algorithm on an old 3D-rendered image of mine.

Nice result out of the box, with only a few minor errors here and there.

@metin Dis yiu test the AI Link to Krita? It works offline and gives also nice results. The option to control the AI reslts is incredible and brings "artist skills back to the desk".

Besides the amazing Quad Remesher, are there any alternative (paid or free) remeshing and/or retopology add-ons for Blender that you'd recommend?

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@metin @jan To be honest I haven't seen a real competitor for QuadRemesher. I use it here most time. A lot of people just think of "volumetric" objects like charakters etc. But quad remesher is the only one that is able to manage 2D mesh informations like cloth patterns or unfolded product packages. The material option in QuadRemesher is a game changer.

@jan Don't leave Mastodon, please. Even if you don't see who is reading your posts, I'm sure there are people doing it regularly. What would be the alternative in your opinion? I left the "X-Hell" a long time ago. I visited it some time ago and found spam posts only. It's a junk platform today.

The Eszett ß character is a beautiful letter that can be read as S or double S as in Straße <> Strasse.
The problem is it isn't in the standard Latin character set and so often causes extremely bizzare rendering when used online.
I tried to enter an address with it in a UK banking app and ended up with total nonsense.
This, in 2024, should not be happening it is in the extended ASCII set and so doesn't even require UTF-8.

@mbt3d. Not just some... I'm always using "ss" to ensure all works.

Finished The Terror season 1. A grim, gripping series, with impressive art direction and wardrobes, convincing performances, and Ridley Scott as an executive producer. Recommended.

I haven't seen The Terror season 2 (yet) though. It's a separate story, and I noticed that it has received lower ratings. But I enjoyed season 1.

@metin I loved watching the first season, too. The second season is far not as good as the first one, which impressed me much, but I've also watched the second until the end. "The Horror" is one of the best scary series ever, in my opinion.

Started a new scene. I love that 3D editor so much. The SDF (Signed Distance Fields) approach gives you total modeling freedom, without worrying about polygon structures, edge flow, etc..

The screenshot shows part of a snake-like alien, existing of two curves. The mouth curve is Boolean-subtracted in real-time, including auto-filleted edges everywhere.

This is a rendition of a 6-day-old chicken embryo. It's a model I made for a project for a client. I took it as a base for an animation of the development of a chicken embryo from first division to hatching. That will take some time though ;-)

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@metin @mbt3d @miekeroth Very nice work, Mieke. I never used Zbrush but have a subscription for quadremesher. I can't live without it. It's a huge time saver and fulfills all needs if you read the docs and know how to use it in complex situations. Face groups aren't really needed. By the way: you can mark faces with some dummy materials. It works the same, and you get independent retopo areas.

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@miekeroth @metin @mbt3d facegroups/Polygroups are existing in Blender too. But you can't use them (yet) for QuadRemesher. The Addon didn't get any updates in the rescent months. But it still works great, even with Blender 4. I don't know a better auto retopo routine for Blender. I know the coder (Maxime) has also written the original auto remesher. A great developer.

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@mbt3d @miekeroth @metin Try higher poly amount or try the options. "Odd" is a bit subjective, if I don't know the mesh and what you actually expect. 😁

@JohnConstableRA I'm living in Germany... You can trust me. 🙂 Wikipedia is a free platform that can be edited by everyone. So, someone made a mistake. Even if Caspar David is a German artist, he may also have painted places in Switzerland. But this image represents the Uttewalder Grund in Germany.

Someone, uhh, accidentally convinced me to look at video sequencer.

I know absolutely nothing about video, sequencers, timelines, composition or these parts of Blender codebase. Which is to say, perfect! :)

Just landed for Blender 4.1, make drawing UI of complex timelines 4x faster https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/pulls/115311

But also, I started to look into related parts, and oof, now I want to speed up like 300 other parts. Which one to start with first?

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@aras Thank you so much for investing your time into this. I hope you are also interested in improving the composition area of . It needs as much as the same energy, like the VSE.

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@aras That's right, but there is not happening much and there are very long brakes between updates. The viewport compositor is a nice toy, but professional users work with rendered EXR data most time. At least I do it... 🙂 And if you try to work with bitmaps everything is super slow, because of missing caching like in modern fx tools. A lot of nodes are also very old and not updated. Multiprocessor support is also rare in compositing.

CWernerArt,
@CWernerArt@mstdn.social avatar

@aras Before I continue my critics I'll check the 4.1 version. Thank you. Compositing with 2k or 4k material was not nice in the history, but I give it a try.
