I need some mastodon magic, please.
I'm looking for countries that have introduced or broadened Indoor Air Quality laws since 2020. I'm particularly interested in the implementation/enforcement of those laws, especially in schools, healthcare, public transport...
I'm aware of laws in France, Belgium and Ontario but haven't found much on how it's going.

Please boost for reach!

We're at the beginning of a new covid wave and funding for free RATs is ending on 30 June.
We all know the majority of people won't be able to afford tests; most others will not test if they have to pay for it. This means covid will spread faster and the vulnerable population is at even more risk.
Please contact your local MP and let them know we care. I have little hope but at least they cannot say they didn't know.

It's 2024.

Any plan to address attendance at schools that fails to improve air quality is not serious, and will backfire.

These are facts.
Students, aides, and teachers are getting sick at school. Repeatedly and progressively worse.

Forcing sick kids to school does nothing to fix that.
It does a lot to worsen it.

ConnyChiwa,
@ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

@mu @pezmico @seawall What a lot of people (esp. those in charge) still don't get is that cleaning the air is actually not that hard and it would be much cheaper than dealing with staff shortages all the time.
We have the expertise, we have the evidence, we have all the tools... it's a choice not to do anything about it. Wonder how much longer until the crucial bits stop working.

There's three days left to submit to the NZ covid inquiry!
Every voice counts, especially if you're in support of the early pandemic response.
The campaigners opposing Aotearoa's approach are making a lot of noise. So we need to be louder!
Please boost for reach!

Here's a template you can copy & paste into the survey. Adapt it or leave it as is.

Craig Stevens @wavygk talked on The Detail about his recent trip to Antarctica. Our government really needs to listen to scientists more. "Yes, research is not cheap but the cost of ignorance is far greater".
I think it's fair to say this applies to more than just .

Most people want to wear respirators to protect themselves, but they don't because they THINK everyone else is judging them.

People are digging their own graves because they believe something that isn't true. It's literally just inertia and a few super loud assholes.

Wearing a respirator isn't hard.

Getting sick all the time is. Being disabled is. Saying goodbye to your spouse and kids as they prep you for intubation is. Rehab for a stroke is. Watching your parents die from a virus they caught from you is. Growing up without a mom or dad is.

But wearing a respirator isn't hard.

@AE4WX @PacificNic My go to mantra is "None of the people judging you are going to care for you when you're sick or disabled. So why care what they think or say."

    @dave The really sad thing is it was never about preventing individual suffering, just trying not to overwhelm the health system so we don't get scenes like in Europe & US with tent hospitals and bodies in cooling trucks.
    I'm so angry at all the calculated denial and misinformation (or lack of public health info to counter it). All the doctors who cannot be bothered to stay informed and protect their patients (just had another one this week telling me I can take my mask off 🤬).

    ConnyChiwa,
    @ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

    @dave Gosh, the team of 5 million haunts me now. I remember talking to a friend in Europe mid 2021 who had total resigned and given up. I naively thought we'd never get to that stage in Aotearoa where we'd stop protecting the children and the vulnerable. I thought we valued whānau and community. A tiny island nation leading the way for the world...
    Maybe that's why the grief of seeing one friend after another buy into the narrative sits so deeply.

    ConnyChiwa,
    @ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

    @dave Agreed. Feels like we fell harder cause we were at the top of the pandemic responses and now it's just a different kind of trauma to carry around.

    ConnyChiwa,
    @ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

    @eniko @dave The push to open up from businesses and the rest of the world was enormous, and in the end politics and misinformation won over public health. Not sure how/whether we'll ever be able to turn this around and come back to a place where science and empathy lead the way.

    @dave Ended up in ER over night last year (when NZ still had mask mandates in HC) and I will never forget the nurse who told me I could take off my mask now bc she had pulled the antibacterial curtain round my bed! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Ironically, she was the only HCW wearing a respirator the whole time I was there. All the doctors wore saggy blues that slipped off constantly.
    Around me, multiple patients were coughing and wheezing. I slept in my N95, went home covid-free. Still unfathomable!

    @oldperl @teezeh @longcovid Eine "Anleitung", die ich gerade gelesen habe: 1 Aktivität aussuchen (laufen, lesen, etc), messen, wie lange man die Aktivität problemlos an einem guten / schlechten Tag machen kann (20 vs 4 min), Mittelwert bilden (12min) & ein paar Minuten abziehen als Puffer. Festgelegte Pausen einbauen (zB. 2 min Pause alle 4 min), nach einer Woche leicht erhöhen, je nachdem wie gut es ging (2-5 min). ConnyChiwa,
    @ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

    @VestigialLung @kaffando @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 Here in Aotearoa (New Zealand), if you're U30 you cannot get a covid booster unless you're severely immunocompromised. Yet, they keep throwing away expired vaccine doses worth 100s of 1000s of dollars. Every time I read about that my brain feels like it's going to implode. I don't understand why they make up all these useless rules for vaccine accessibility yet are fine relying on personal responsibility for use of masks & other measures.

    ConnyChiwa,
    @ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

    @raadsharar @VestigialLung @kaffando @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 I know. It's just outrageous. Probably shouldn't have been surprised by all this but I still kinda believed in the team of five million (NZ population) our previous PM praised for the initially collective and supportive response. Long in the past... especially now that we've got a RW govt that reintroduces smoking for our youth to pay for tax cuts for the rich (and not being ashamed to say so publicly).

    @ConnyChiwa@mastodon.nz avatar

    @VestigialLung @raadsharar @kaffando @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 Yep. People wanted change after all the covid protection measures Labour had put in place - ignoring how many 1000s of lives that saved. Conservatives lied throughout the campaign and MSM didn't scrutinise them sufficiently. Now we got change. Don't think that's what most people had in mind. :(

    Ugh! Just spotted at the local library: free RATs available until December 2023 - tests expiring 01/2024. Are we going to be left without free tests come 2024 because let's be honest, who (but the covid-cautious and vulnerable) is going to buy tests, let alone be able to afford buying tests?
    And is there a point writing to MoH just prior to the election?

    @pixelnull It's the sad state of this world that your initial reaction when misreading it is justified. I tried not to get the staff on the photo hence the weird camera angle.
    There's multi shops in my town with that sticker. I'm sad we have to make that explicit (when it should be a given) but it also makes me happy every time I see a new sticker popping up.
