@Jocarnail @TwistedFox I really like this approach—having the group formed or with knowledge of one another—as it makes for a smoother start but still with room for differing personalities.

One thing I have started doing is telling the players what the call to adventure will be. “There’s a job notice to meet at a shady bar and deliver a shady package to a shady place. Build a character that would answer the call.”

The local Creative Club has been taken over by geeks. So they may branch out and offer a second monthly session for us!

Played a really fun storytelling game today. Definitely a great time for my inner theatre kid!

As a side note, the Princess Bride theme (Storybook Love) was one of the songs at our wedding. As was the Morrowind theme.

    tip from the archive: Just because the characters are level 12 doesn't mean all the castle guards became champions. Use context-relevant monsters.

    @slyflourish I remember struggling with this with one of my groups. Not that I was throwing extremely powerful guards at them, but that they were extremely tentative when dealing with a small group of guards.

    Y’all… they’re all CR 1 at best. You can take them if they spot you, or maybe even intimidate your way through.

    Very risk averse crowd.

    If possible, I would try to run games a little shorter!

    @AdmiralFrosty @Role_Play_Chat Agreed on both of these fronts. It’s sometimes tricky when I am trying to end at a decision point that will help me prep for the next session(s) and the party suddenly gets in the weeds on the logistics of the nautical-themed tavern when I just need them to decide if they’re actually taking the long rest or not. 😅

    I wanted to see if ChatGPT could put me out of the job, so I asked it to write a funny fake fact. To my surprise, it literally just plagiarized one of my own facts. Nearly word for word. I'd say my position remains safe for now.

    My fact: Penguins can fly, but choose not to because they have a fear of heights.
