Let's face it: The COVID Pandemic in a very practical sense existed in our society only in terms of our capitalistic economy. And because of this, decisions that affect our national economy are not made with said national economy in mind, only individual greed.

People dying, increased video calls & meetings, curbside pickup, meal deliveries, work from home, worker-workload imbalances, universal income vs worker shortages...the list goes on and on. Our societies - our governments - do not exist for their benefit of people who live here.

Capitalist drama & greed, at its finest.

Huy Fong (HF) created their own Sriracha shortage a few years ago when they tried to screw over the sole producer of the special peppers they use.

The farm, Underwood Family Farms (UFF), took them to court and years later, won.

Now HF is available again because they switched to Chinese farms - but that meant they had to change their recipe.

In the meantime, fans of the HF's "The Rooster" Sriracha had discovered there are countless other brands and even other chili & pho sauces.

And, UFF now has their own Sriracha product using the special peppers & a recipe closer to the original Huy Fong Sriracha than HF's new recipe.

But, UFF has no Asian connections at all; they're white as can be. Their corporate branding is USA-Beef-BBQ. But they recently rebranded their Sriracha & put random faux Chinese decor & wording on their label to make it look authentically Asian. That is not going over well.

NPR: "School board elections latest battleground for polarized national politics"

Okay, NPR is a bit late to the game, and I've said it before & I'll likely say it again:

School boards and Sheriffs are no longer "nonpartisan". Election officials and ballot processes that treat them as such are enabling Republican extremists to take over those positions even in blue counties by not having to reveal their actual political stance.

The positions are already partisan at this point, thanks to MAGA efforts. Put them on the ballot as such and make candidates pick a party. Voters and basic honesty deserve as much.

Honestly, it's almost 2024. Psych should be ashamed of itself. Should be, but won't be, because psych's underlying theory is still apparently unaware that the science of neurology exists.

And because of this, said theory posits without any evidence that autistics are merely a collection of learned non-conforming behaviors to be unlearned. It's the underlying theory behind much of the DSM.

As a result it's 2023 and they're just getting around to discovering that there are autistic adults out and about in the world, and our lived experiences are consistent with each other. It's important to note that for decades, autistics were not allowed to lead studies on autistics because we might be, "biased".

Remember back when the NCAA said they weren't going to help trans people any more, and instead will leave equality & inclusion policies up to each sport's national organization (knowing full well some were very transphobic)?

Not mention much if at all back then was that when the final part of the NCAA's policy goes into effect in 2024, the policy will require transgender student-athletes to provide documentation no less than twice annually to show they meet sport-specific standards, which can include testosterone level testing.

I have a feeling when, or if, that gets to the Supreme Court, Justices will state that it's fair because both trans men and trans women have to abide by the same policy.

The first requires schools to notify parents if a student is trans, with no exceptions for student safety concerns.

The second repeals 2014's AB1266 that ensured trans student non-discrimination and goes as step further, mandating students only participate in any school activities based on their AGAB.

The third blocks all affirming health care for trans minors.

They need 546,651 signatures to get the measures on the ballot.

There are around 6 million evangelical protestant adults in California, and 20 million Catholics in the state; a bit under half the Catholics poll as following the official anti-trans teachings. That's 16 million conservative Christians. Whittle it down any way you please, but Republican churches alone can and will ensure those measures will get on the Nov 2024 ballot.
