I love to do things with others if it's more like body doubling or parallel play. If we're all working toward a common goal there's already a social structure in place.

@Frances_Larina@sfba.social avatar

@PossiblyAutistic @actuallyautistic

I mean, reusable code is doing the same thing over and over again only in that case it's seen as a good thing. It all depends on the perspective of the person doing the judging. Maybe they mean, "actions that serve no other purpose other than to be an enjoyable stim"?

Frances_Larina,
@Frances_Larina@sfba.social avatar

I've met autistics who are amazing at it, and I've met those for whom it's impossible. That question always feels like a relic from an ignorant psychology past?

Autism and Sensory Issues:

Our microwave oven is a sensory nightmare for me. I always try to stop it before it reaches zero and begins beeping. I get extremely anxious over this.

What do you avoid?

@autism101 @actuallyautistic

I realize you asked for other things we avoid but I can't not comment on the weirdness that appliance beepers aren't volume-programmable including off. It would be a far better use for the "soften frozen ice cream" button or whatever.

Regarding things we avoid, my spouse is wet-touch avoidant, so for them,
everything that falls under that category? I dissociate at the drop of a hat, so I don't avoid much. Especially if someone needs something done. That may not be a good trait?

The expressions of it have always been far too social for me. But I love that other people are enjoying it so much, and that it stands as a wee bit of pushback to the Christian holidays that are otherwise front & center in the USA.

This is...surprisingly accurate.

MTBI = Myers–Briggs Type Indicator, is a many question quiz that creates scores that are tallied and produces the stereotypical four letter personality label. The first position is Extrovert vs Introvert, the second is Sensing vs Intuition, the third is Thinking vs Feeling and the final letter is Judging vs Perceiving.

Frances_Larina, (edited )
@Frances_Larina@sfba.social avatar

@elithebearded

To me it's more a commentary on how psych is far less of a science than it likes to portray itself. The four categories are interesting, but rather arbitrary and end up really measuring how neurotypical someone is. Better science wouldn't have the moral implication of conformity.

"How did testosterone become so criminalized? The ’90s Olympic bribery scandal that started it all.

Moral panic over steroids has always had the criminalization of transmasculine people as collateral damage."

I would go so far as to call it convenient collateral damage. By the 90's, conservatives were already well into trying to block, ignore and erase efforts by The Gay Movement to have AIDS taken seriously as a health issue rather than a moral one.

"Johnson is a Trump-loving, election-denying, abortion ban-supporting, gay rights-opposing, climate change-rejecting, and conspiracy-believing conservative.
If House Democrats are smart, they will turn Mike Johnson into a household name though not in a good way."

That "If" is the load-bearing word in that observation. Seriously, in the decades since the hanging chads debacle (or even the Clinton impeachment) have the Democrats ever really gone on the offensive in any sort of strategic manner?

Nobody I’ve seen looks healthier or happier or like they have more to offer the world before their transition.

Other Trans people may not like to hear me say this, but most of us look like we were very, very sick.

How can you look at pictures of people before and after transition and not understand that it is a wonderful thing – that should be available to as many people who need it as possible? Let people be themselves and watch us thrive.

Frances_Larina,

There are entire swaths of our society that have a deep need to hide that people can thrive without it being centered on their flavor of organized religion.

    Stumbled on this buried lede:

    "Once in the air, the vehicle is expected to fly over “several communities” to gather data on how people react to the significantly reduced sonic booms. Afterward, NASA says they will share their findings with domestic and international regulators “to potentially adjust rules that currently prohibit commercial supersonic flight over land.”"

    Why does this feel like someone is using NASA to fly a single experimental craft a handful of times in order to repeal or knock down the rules that are stopping the ultra-wealthy from flying supersonic to the other side of the globe simply for their convenience?

    https://thedebrief.org/nasas-mysterious-x-59-supersonic-experimental-aircraft-is-finally-gearing-up-for-its-first-flight/

    Oh, that's right: Boom supersonic's newly announced, long developed "Overture" super expensive supersonic commercial airliner which currently cannot legally fly but is nearing production anyway.

    https://aviationsourcenews.com/analysis/boom-supersonic-overture-vs-concorde-comparing-the-pair/

    By the way, Boom, aka DMC Global Inc., has a valuation of $1B to $10B, consisting largely of investor funding.

    Yeah, but the cost of masks are carried by the individual and nobody is willing to regulate organizations, companies, churches, etc.. Especially not public health agencies.

    Also, the 74th Law of Capitalism states that cost should be carried by someone else whenever possible.

    Yesterday driving home in the dark, I see another car racing up behind me. I'm already going the speed limit, so I figure it's another asshole driving a pickup. Car gets almost right on my bumper, then changes lanes without signalling. My fight or flight response is triggered because of how quickly this whole thing is happening. The worst part? It was a frickin cop. No lights or sirens, just a cop laughing in the face of traffic safety and putting me on edge the rest of the drive.

    Frances_Larina,
    @Frances_Larina@sfba.social avatar

    @ThePoetSky

    I'm sorry that happened to you, that can be so stressful.
    There was a time when cops were expected to obey traffic laws like everyone else except when on an active, urgent or emergency call. Now it's like they feel the more often they can put on a show of ignoring laws, the more powerful they'll appear.

    Is there a word that’s like dysmorphia but for language? Like, you’ve said something that you think is completely clear and there’s no way someone can misunderstand it but they do? Like you think you’re speaking plain English but they hear like Ancient Greek or something.

    Neurotypicals just call it, "poor diction" but that sets them and their communication styles as the standard of perfection so I can't see how it's valid. But I can see how because of that, they didn't label the phenomenon. That means we get to do it and we should, quickly!
