Fedi on Fire first beta is now released! I just had to try and do it... Watch those endless Fediverse posts flow! :meow_hearteyes: Check it out at https://fedionfire.stream
I should get over the fact people are not into Mastodon or Fediverse and do not care for the open web. This makes me very sad.
I've been feeling down lately anyway for about a week now. Not only because of this. Lots of things going on in my life. Can't wait for my Autumn Holiday next week. Every attempts to cheer me up welcome.
@rolle Honesty can't obsess over it. Some people are just not into it or not ready to leave their current platform even, as dumb as it is over there. I too am chilling out and getting off my soapbox among friends. Rather just use the platform than to keep trying to convert/convince people.
Tbh, I dont even think some people want to actually socialize anymore lmao. some WANT the algorithm, numbers, the likes, but not the conversation. We'll see them if they join threads I guess haha
If we ignore the notion whether it should, what would make the Fediverse or Mastodon easier to approach for the majority of people? Getting rid of tech talk around the platform? Better, world class user interface? Somehow dismantling the whole domain and server structure? Just calling it Mastodon as one service instead of a Mastodon instance with domain, obfuscating it somehow? Just focusing on mastodon.social and ignore the rest? Acting as centralized service on the outside? Making it seamless via features and improvements? Is there any silver bullet?
I am not against the current state of things, on the contrary. Just curious and trying to think outside this box… of instances and other techy stuff. Could it even be easier to comprehend, or do we just have to continue educating people on the matter?
@rolle UX/UI needs some improvements out the box for sure, but what we also need IMO is for people to STFU about activitypub and decentralization.
Normal people DO NOT CARE lmao. They just want to use a platform.
I have avoided these topics as I introduce people to the platform and tell them "it just works"
We don't explain our entire financial infrastructure when introducing people to a debit card, idk why online guides keep trying to teach activitypub using SMTP as an example ugh lmao
Still wondering, are the familiar user interface and this certain "exclusiveness" (via invite) the only traits that attract people to join Bluesky? I mean it's so incomplete it blows my mind.
The user interfaces, algorithm, and the uh... Toxicity are what draw people to it in my opinion
We saw exclusivity crash and burn a social network launch before haha (google Plus)
The biggest thing is toxicity I think. Truth of the matter is, many people love to publicly talk shit lol, and a bigger subset love drama so they love that content pushed to them.
Experimenting with the verified badge in Mastodon Bird UI.
If multiple links are verified it's kinda strange to show the verification multiple times. There is a very easy way to check if one of the links have been verified and then show a badge.
That's awesome, I look forward to when it releases!
Yeah, I ended up keeping larger text on this instance simply because when in a VR headset, it makes everything much easier to render properly and read on those displays/lenses 😅
Thank you for all you do!
Is there a donation/patreon link I could support by chance? 😁
What would make Mastodon prominent social media platform in regular people's eyes when it's not any of these (opposing opinions in parentheses):
Mastodon is free and open source (means nothing to the people)
Many known people use Mastodon (not enough or not the right people)
14 million users (clearly not "enough" when compared to centralized services OR not the right people)
Activity and engagement from a personal perspective is way better than in other services (a subjective opinion or a "bubble" doesn't prove anything for anyone)
Better features (what good are they when nobody notable uses Mastodon and the service is nothing)
It's been active for a long time and Fediverse is vast (who cares about that, it's for the tiny communities and for nerds)
You just choose the server, create an account and start using it (too complicated and weird)
@rolle as much as people hate on it, threads has the potential to greatly help these issues.
The high profile people, the "right" people whom dont care to learn about fediverse have an application they can easily access and then connect with their friends here.
I'm excited for them to join. Though I have some theories about the way they will do it.
I worry they may join in a way where all other instances are kind of "limited" in mastodon terms
Heh, relevant to earlier, while I want them to join us to connect the users that need simplicity, another great reason for us to appreciate our mastodon instances:
