The second-oldest outstanding project in the list of projects I've backed just arrived today.

Estimated delivery was September 2021.

I'm still waiting on the one that was supposed to be done in January 2020.

I've recently noticed that if I click on a link in an e-mail on my PC, I go directly to that URL. If I right-click to copy it, I get the URL on my clipboard. But if I'm using Gmail on my phone and click on a link in an e-mail, or right-click to copy it, what I get is a Google URL. 😒 @pluralistic https://m.ai6yr.org/@sciencewrighter/111812572329509714

Tonight I'm thinking about the games people play in the Six Kingdoms.

These should overlap in some cases and be sectioned off in others. Board, card, dice, ball and other games and sports should be part of every culture in a world.

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@bedirthan Card games exist only where paper exists, and primarily where paper is plentiful.

If paper is a luxury, only the upper classes play cards.

If its use is widespread but the material is scarce, the cards are small and thin, like these:

Had cause to look into what the Tooth Fairy's going rate for teeth is these days and was shocked to learn that the Bluey episode "Markets" was telling the whole honest truth.

Five bucks, for Pete's sake.

To me this CLEARLY means that $5 should be our largest denomination coin by now.

Today we’re looking at two more factions in the city of Sigil: the Harmonium, a faction of militant peacekeepers (yes, that’s an oxymoron, and no, they don’t care), and the Transcendent Order, who practice their disciplines to the point where action no longer requires conscious thought.

Gamer Says Ubisoft Exec Needs to Get Comfortable With People Not Giving Ubisoft Money, Then

This is everywhere. This is everything.

If we want to halt the relentless of every good and service we pay good money for, we need to get rid of two things, altogether:

  • Legally enshrined shareholder primacy
  • The entire executive class

The research is conclusive, but school districts across the country refuse to move high school start times later, because … well, basically, because this is America and they don't wanna.

We hate our kids and want them to suffer. If school lunches weren't proof enough, high school start times are. https://newsie.social/@TheConversationUS/111739211688876556

You know your Humblewood campaign is off to a great start when the conversation devolves into whether humblefolk have a kink where they imagine themselves as humans and call themselves "fleshies."

My latest newsletter is about the attempts to evict Bluestockings, and the new laws that require maximum cruelty towards unhoused people.

And I talk about why we want to judge unhoused people for their behavior, and how it's part of our American disease.

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@wordshaper @charliejane To paraphrase @JuliusGoat, our country has internalized a set of "foundational lies": that we owe one another nothing, that life must be earned, that it's earned by demonstrating profitability (for yourself or for someone else), and that the unprofitable should be exploited if they're exploitable and allowed to die if they're not.

@KeithAmmann Out of curiosity, is your wordpress blog available to follow on the fediverse? I love your work and would love to have new articles pop up in my feed.

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@nickdrawthing I haven't figured out how to set it up that way yet, but I'm disinclined to, because I've had to mute the couple of blogs that other users have boosted into my Mastodon feed—they're just too long compared with everything else.

"The survey found nearly universal opposition among authors to their works being used to train AI systems without permission. Only 3 percent said that they thought it was okay for AI to use their books without consent or compensation; 96 percent of respondents said that writers’ consent should be required, and they should be paid if their works are used to build and further develop an AI system, and 1 percent said they did not know." https://authorsguild.org/news/ag-ai-survey-reveals-authors-overwhelmingly-want-consent-and-compensation-for-use-of-their-works/

@slyflourish The Authors' Guild is a membership organization. It doesn't just represent authors with book deals from big trade publishers. So I'd expect it to be looking out for the interests of all authors, including those who self-publish or are published by small press.

Thanks to everyone for the active discussion and feedback. Based on the plurality of votes (44%) and some clear arguments for negative impact of federation I've blocked federation with threads.net.

I don't think this is an easy decision, and it's one we may want to revisit in the future, but I think for now this is clearly the consensus direction for this instance.

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@sage Personally, I voted for NOT federating, but the folks who say a plurality voted for some degree of federation have a point. If this had been a ranked choice vote, limited fed almost certainly would have won. That said, a poll isn't the same thing as a vote, and you do note that people's arguments also played a role in your decision.

Regardless of whether the question is up for reconsideration, I think everyone ought to read this, by @kissane: https://erinkissane.com/untangling-threads

I don't tend to use words like "ableism," but I'm sure there are low-vision advocates out there with very strong words for a company that insists on reverting document zoom settings every time a program is opened.

Anyone know how to get the TIME of posting to display in ?

Looking for something for breaking news where the date/time group can't just be shown as Date: X hours ago

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@bedirthan Yeah, that's how I have it set up. Every post starts with:

Title
Date | Categories

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@bedirthan Time is part of Date. I use the default format, which doesn't show time, but there are options in the pull-down that do include it. And you can choose "Custom" to set it up any way you want: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/customize-date-and-time-format/

KeithAmmann,
@KeithAmmann@dice.camp avatar

@bedirthan Change theme, then? IDK. My last redesign, I switched from Edin to Twenty Twenty-Three, and while setting it up was a miserable, day-long process, I'm very happy with it now that I'm done.
