An old techie who occasionally uses new tech. Teacher by trade. Psychology and Critical Thinking are my subjects, YMMV.

I don't give a flying fig who you have relationships with, what you do in your bedroom or what you do in your church, as long as you don't expect me or anyone else to think, do or believe as you do.

I used to say that all my cultural references are 20+ years old, but that is now out of date. All my cultural references are from the previous century.

I am not sure why I started on this little project or if it even has any value, but hey.

I found a VHS video vault on archive.org and found that removing two thirds of the video actually made them more watchable and entertaining. So, I decided to make it permanent and actually edit them, not just skip through while watching.

This is sort of a proof of concept attempt, an anti-drug short.

Let me know what you think!

If you're not from the US and want to travel here. Don't.

I thought as a (German and white) visitor I'm gonna be fine.

Border and customs protection took my phone, forced me to unlock it and stole god knows what data from it. The agent was powertripping and made sure to let me know that I am powerless and he can just send me home or do godknowswhat to me.

He directly said "if you're annoying I'm just sending you home".

Apparently my trans ass was part of a "random search". Lol.

I'm fine now and with Lexi luckily. I don't know what kind of malware is on my phone, or what they took from it. I've been crying all throughout my connecting flight.

This place is a dystopian shithole. Please don't go here.

Let me just apologize for most of the people of my country. I am very sorry for your experience.

But I agree, it would be best if we just came to you rather than you returning here. I hope to see you on the road, somewhere other than the US, sometime!

It still gets me the Bible Jesus is a homeless socialist with brown skin, hangs out with 12 dudes and a Prostitute, tells rich people to pay their taxes and give their wealth to the poor, tells the religious leaders that they need to love everyone equally, gets a whip and goes hog on people using religion to sell stuff, and then straight up gets murdered for these beliefs. Yet somehow churches act like he's some kind of Conservative Haircut in khakis and a button up, who would support cutting welfare programs, and would preach Prosperity Gospel.

MylesRyden,
@MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

@RickiTarr

To be fair, they have read it. People just have psychic blindness towards what is in the book, it is like a Rorschach test, it is a giant blob and people place on it their own meaning. We on the left have a tendency to ignore the jerkass stuff Jesus does and says and pretty much throw the entire OT overboard.

It is best, of course, to throw the whole thing overboard. There are no teachings of ethical or moral interest in the whole book. Anything that vaguely smacks of an ethical teaching is already well covered by the Greeks, Romans or Indians (for example, "The Golden Rule.")

I know I am preaching to the choir here (see what I did?) and naturally the Bible thumpers gonna keep thumpin' even when it is totally out of context or flat out wrong (i.e. abortion and sexual orientation.)

Truth. The Grammys have been worse and even more irrelevant.

Maybe better lately, but I stopped caring decades ago.

So, Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) was the asshole screaming from the upper gallery.

About 40% of US COVID-19 deaths "could have been averted," an analysis of President Donald Trump's public-health policies found. The report, published by the Lancet Commission, excoriated Trump's handling of the pandemic and general approach to public health. "He expedited the spread of COVID-19 in the US," the authors wrote.

I would say that the Congressional contingent from Wisconsin right now (excluding the Dems, of course) is the most embarrassing since McCarthy. Ron Johnson isn't even a useful idiot, he is just a flat out Russian asset. My Rep (Tom Tiffany) is an empty suit (like Duffy before him) and the rest are Trumpian clowns.

This is what gerrymandering gets you.

I liked "Seinfeld" well enough the first time around. "Cheers" was way better, but "Seinfeld" was OK. That was back in the day.

"Seinfeld" has not aged well at all, I turn it off faster than "Big Bang Theory" (which is pretty fast!)

For the most part, Cheers has held up pretty well.

1/ After having tested it for some time, phanpy.social ( @phanpy ) is now my one and only client. The interface is sleek, and you can tell there's clear intentionality behind every single design choice.

First, look at how gorgeous nested replies look! I no longer struggle trying to decipher who's replying to what. And when you reach too many nested levels, a button gives you the choice to deploy them or not, to keep things clean.

From now on, "Genocide Joe" will get you blocked. One can be critical of Joe Biden's policies over the conflict in without repeating Russian propaganda. He can't just pick up the phone and order Bibi to stop, and Bibi has already stated he would refuse such orders. And I'm not going to throw women, gays, trans, immigrants, Ukraine, or anyone else under the bus just because I'm disappointed in his Israel policy. I've made up my mind.

Sadly, the update has broken my system and my spirit.

After 5 years of enthusiastic usage and evangelism, I have decided with a heavy heart that I have to move on to something else.

Very obvious bugs -- KDE app windows don't resize properly, shut down options in menus not working, settings carried forward incorrectly and probably more.

Themes and widgets, some that I have depended on, completely destroyed.

Probably the worst computer day I have ever had. Like Charlie Brown, I had a lie down in a dark room to see if the sadness would lessen, but it didn't.

So long, KDE, it was a good five year run.

Is there a way to revert back to Plasma 5.27?

I don't think is ready for prime time. When I open apps, the title bar goes above the screen space and I can't move or close the app or use the menus.

@kde

MylesRyden,
@MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

@SigHunter

Yes, but I don't want to use the app maximized, when I hit the resize button, the app goes off the screen.

It is not making my day very good, that is for sure. Perhaps there is a way to run it under X11 still and that might help for me, I have an older machine.

@eager_eagle

That does move the window around, but resizing the window with the mouse does not work. So, I can move the window around, but I can't resize the window so it is between the panel bars.

MylesRyden, to KDE

So far, I have to say that my experience sucks.

The theme I was using doesn't work. The icons all suck. EventCalendar, which was synced to my Google calendar is dead. Vivaldi looks like crap. The panel at the bottom of my screen is floating up probably 100 pixels, leaving useless space below it, I can't find a way to sink it to the actual bottom of the screen. I had increased all my font sizes because my eyes are bad, they have all shrunk and changing the font sizes and the interface percentage doesn't fix it.

So far, not a happy experience @kde

MylesRyden,
@MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

@Fleppensteijn

I would agree with with many of the issues you have experienced here. Nothing personal, but I am kinda glad, I thought I was going crazy and was the only one having these issues.

Totally agree on the shutdown, etc.

Biggest thing that is broken for me is simple window management. If I have two apps on a desktop, clicking on the the bottom one doesn't raise it to the top. If I open a context menu (for example, right clicking on a link in the browser) the menu opens UNDER the browser.

On my machine, 6 is not ready for prime time. And I have no idea how to categorize things to try and report the bugs. Could be Wayland issues, but I can't figure out how to start a Plasma 6 session in X11 to see if the problems go away. Maybe my window issues are a result of using Activities (which apparently no one else does) but I don't want to shut all that down.

I've decided to (re-)install Kubuntu to go back to 5.27 and hopefully come back when 6 is actually ready.

Saving screenshots of these articles about Wendy's surge pricing now to save some time later so I can be the first one to post a "how it started, how it's going" meme with a headline about Wendy's filing for bankruptcy or having one of their stores be burned down.

Indeed...imagine being in line and watching the prices go up. Or the guy in front of you orders the same thing as you and pays less.

I think the latter option you surmise is most likely first.
