@maxkennerly I can’t stop thinking about how he ended up destroying a three billion dollar rocket and its launchpad because he knew the launchpad was inadequate, but he decided to launch anyway, and the predictable disintegration of the launchpad damaged a quarter of the rocket engines before liftoff, dooming the rocket. If that’s not sabotage via incompetence, I don’t know what is.

The greatest myth about the U.S. is the fantasy of a representative government. We don’t have that.

70% of people - a majority of both parties - want tighter gun regulations. 60% want minimum wage to double. 63% say the government should ensure healthcare coverage for all. Upwards of 80% supported the content of the Voting Rights bill.

Neither party can get any of these things done, because they don’t represent you. They represent corporations and the rich.

They don’t represent you.

@accretionist that’s not at all what I’m saying. One side blocks, the other side tries juuuuuuust hard enough to act like they care. If they really wanted to get past the obstruction, there are procedures to overcome it, but despite having overwhelming public support, they won’t do it, because they don’t represent people.

@accretionist I’d say the Venn diagram of things you and I agree on is close to two overlapping circles. The point I’m making is that if Dems fought for popular things as hard as Republicans fight for unpopular things, people would see a clear reason to vote FOR them, and not just against the sedition party.

Whoever is strategizing for the DNC should be put on a rocket and launched into the sun, because their ineptitude is enabling a fascist group of traitors to remain relevant.

as i understand it, the idea of centre-left and centre-right is almost absent in US politics these days. if you try to have some kind of balanced view, it's completely dismissed.

@thor we have center-right (Democrats) and crazy-right (Republicans). Bernie Sanders is at the left edge of American politics, and he’s probably the closest thing to center-left we have. Millions of American voters have been disenfranchised not because there’s no middle, but because there’s no left.

    I just learned that in Spanish-speaking countries in South America, their version of “righty tighty, lefty loosy” is “la derecha oprime y la izquierda libera”, which literally translates to “the right oppresses and the left liberates”.

    That, my friends, is the most dead-on mnemonic that has ever been thought up.
