Lockdowns were the closest we ever got to having a global revolution. People had time to think, for once.

Which is why we'll never have them again.

Anthrax, ebola, bird flu, airborne rabies... Whatever.

Nothing will be enough for them to take that risk again.

There's a reason they only ever talk about how "traumatic" the lockdowns were, but nobody talks about SARS.

Why do people think nuclear is the only alternative to coal when we have so many other options?

We haven't even banned private jets or taxed the billionaires to oblivion yet.

Do that and THEN we can have a serious conversation about using something so toxic it can poison entire nations if the system is left unattended or bombed.

Someone I know has been sick with "not COVID" for a couple weeks and has lost 22 lbs. His wife, who recently had a heart attack despite an extremely active lifestyle, has lost 11 lbs from the same thing. She's down to 88 lbs. This is not a safe or healthy weight for her.

This guy made fun of my dad for masking at work but this one illness has cost this guy thousands of dollars in lost work.

Regardless of what it is (almost definitely COVID), WHY would you choose not to mask when you don't have any sick pay?!?

I don't fucking understand people. Humans are fundamentally irrational.

I had the weirdest interaction today. I went into a store and an older guy says to me, "I guess we're back to wearing masks again, hey?" to which I responded, "I guess. I never stopped. I haven't been sick in almost 4 years."

We then had a really candid conversation about COVID with absolutely no animosity while the cashier and another customer listened to our conversation. He asked where I got my information and I said peer-reviewed studies and we talked about N95s and airborne transmission. I don't think I converted anyone but, for the first time, I felt 100% confident and like I had control of the situation.

What I found really weird, though, was the reactions of the two others present. They were both SO uncomfortable. The other customer briefly mentioned that COVID was the worst illness they ever had before scurrying out of the store like they were terrified of the conversation and the cashier pushed their chair back as far away as they could. This was AFTER I made it clear I haven't been sick since February, 2020, so it's not like it was getting sick they were freaked out by. This was, like, cornered animal levels of fear.

The consequence of the unspoken, society-wide "don't say COVID" rule is that I know a lot of people risking their health who think they've made an informed decision, but they REALLY haven't.

I've noticed a lot of people on here who have work with computers. Computers never clicked for me and I feel like I'm missing something so now I'm curious, if you have ADHD, what do you like about working with computers?

I think I'm probably a lot happier than most, if not all, billionaires, honestly.

It blows my mind that nobody is out there making elastomeric N95+ respirators that look less like industrial equipment and more like an accessory. Is the market really too small to make this work?!? I feel like the elastomeric options are so limited and many aren't available in Canada.

I have a Flo Mask but I find the fit can be finicky. It's fine if I'm not talking to people, but it felt sketchy in Costco today. I need a replacement as well because of a small nick on the inside of the gasket but everything out there looks so intense.

So far, the Envo Mask Pro looks to be the best, but it's soooo expensive to import it here. I have a Dentec NxMD that I painted but I don't trust the way the filters are attached. It feels way too easy to install them incorrectly.

I don't really care THAT much if it looks industrial, but I'd really like it if there was something out there that could look stylish.

I'll never forget that feeling from the beginning of the pandemic that a better world was possible. People had a moment to breathe and they started making changes. They quit their jobs, left toxic relationships, moved cities or left the city, relearned forgotten skills from generations past, and started to question their institutionally approved goals and values.

It scared the shit out of people in power, which is why they have been weaponizing our emotions and breaking and gardening our hearts ever since.

We have an instinct to protect the community and the system has been trying to degrade that instinct for decades with sophisticated propaganda, but the good side of people is still there. We just need a moment to breathe.

The good part of us is battered and bruised, but not yet dead. I don't think people forget. I think they've seen that something is wrong and that we could do better.

I think there's still hope.

I'd be such a good prepper influencer on TikTok/Youtube. Maybe not popular, but I'd give great advice.

Every video would just be a reminder to wear a fucking respirator and learn new skills.

Maybe we won't survive with my strategy, but I bet it will work better than hoarding bullets and food.

Interviews are really an opportunity for employers to grill you on how much abuse you will accept.

"Do you work well under pressure with constantly changing priorities?"

Why is that relevant unless you manufacture urgency and can't keep your shit together enough to have your employees working on one thing at a time?

PacificNic, to random

I know there are ways to work-around having a beard and wearing respirators, but I can't believe there isn't a single N95 out there that has that work-around built in.

I miss my beard.

People really don't understand that there is a high chance they'll be disabled or die in the next few years from a preventable disease, do they?

Check out this 3M 7500 paint job by Alexey Kobr! I'm feeling inspired. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kobr/9433136433

Unfortunately there's no source control on the 7500. 😩

The secret is to leverage your immunity debt to acquire more immunity assets that generate more immunity. That way, you generate passive immunity and don't have to get sick another day in your life.

I take the media and public health officers backing off pathologizing maskers as both a good AND bad sign. I think they are just starting to grasp how badly they've fucked up. For them to start walking back on what they've done, it would take A LOT.

So how bad is it?

PacificNic, to random
@PacificNic@zeroes.ca avatar

I'm thinking of switching to a 3M 6000 half face respirator with source control filter instead of my Flo Mask. I'd paint it 90's theme colours. I've been avoiding the proper respirators because I've been worried people will think I'm weird but, really, is their opinion going to be different whether it's a Flo Mask or a 3M? The seal is so much more reliable on the 3M and COVID is so contagious and sooooo bad for you. I'm undecided but I guess why care when I don't value the opinions of people that don't mask anyway?

Thoughts? Wondering how others feel about wearing a respirator like the 3M 6000?

Am I wrong in saying this?

"Except the USSR was not communist. It's not a "no true Scotsman" argument.

"A communist society would entail the absence of private property and social classes, and ultimately money and the state" (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism)

"State capitalism is an economic system in which the state undertakes business and commercial (i.e. for-profit) economic activity and where the means of production are nationalized as state-owned enterprises " (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_capitalism)"

The person I was talking to said it was communist because the party was communist and that state capitalism doesn't make sense as a concept.

That makes no sense to me. How can a party that controls a state be communist? By definition, that would exclude them from being considered communist, no?

YouTube is suggesting A LOT of full-on fascist shit lately, and I don't think it has anything to do with my tastes. I block every single one of these fucking channels and they keep popping up. I mostly watch crochet tutorials and bushcraft shelter-building stuff. Nothing else comes to mind.

It's suggesting horrifying anti-trans propaganda, pro-cop bullshit, and the like.

Something has changed.

(Edit: I'm posting this because I think YouTube is specifically targeting white men for fascist propaganda. If I'm seeing this horseshit, I bet you most white men in your life are also seeing it and they very well may not recognize it for what it is. This is extremely dangerous.)
