A while ago, I tried to take a screenshot of all the cookies you could opt in and out of to visit a website (The New European, if memory serves). It took some effort to get it on one image.

The word count of this list was 4-5 times the word count of the article itself.

And I hate to think much energy our collective CPUs waste churning through this nonsense just so a company can spend $0.00000000001 to know that I once visited some blog.

I think it was a mistake to ever focus on English tuition fees as being a "bad" thing. It was an excuse to introduce a graduate tax by stealth, in a way that could be charged to overseas students.

Meanwhile, maintenance has converted from grant to loan, failed to keep up with inflation, and has effectively become a scam to transfer massive amounts of public funds to private landlords, since it no longer even covers basic rent.
