Mastodon, eh?
Middle-aged, cis-het white guy; my experience has been that the more we amplify the voices of those who don't fall neatly into those categories, the better. So that's what I try to do.
FYI: if I see you scolding someone for mastodonning wrong (i.e., "We don't do threads on Mastodon!" "You need to tag your b/w photos as colorless!" "This discussion of racism needs to be hidden behind a content warning!") I will block you.

Sooo.. the reason you start out in underwear is because you wake up on an abandoned and alien attacked space station from hibernation and will collect your first set of armor on the station

From there you'll be able to go to different planets etc!

As it is the greatest tv show ever made, we all have our favorite Futurama moments, but the one that may resonate most with me is when the Robot Devil says "This opera is as lousy as it is brilliant" because it reminds me of some of my favorite people's social medium jokes.

@msbellows @GrimmReality To be certain: I will never say a bad word about Bryan Cranston or Jane Kaczmeryk! But! They did a lot of, uh, heavy lifting, let's say, to turn some, uh, questionable work by their child co-stars into something watchable?

@msbellows @GrimmReality Don't get me wrong! There's a lot to like about MITM! It's a top 10 example of the "Live-Action Cartoon" genre! Loved it when it was airing new episodes!

    Listen, if youโ€™re a white person, and you think youโ€™ve had Szechuan food, you probably havenโ€™t.

    Most of the Szechuan restaurants in the USA lack a basic component: spiciness.

    I say this because a friend from out of town just went to a Szechuan restaurant in Vancouver, thought it was going to be business as usual, and now heโ€™s doubled over because the spice is too much for him.

    He tells me, itโ€™s so bad, that he feels the spice eking out of his pores. ๐Ÿคฃ

    RufusJCooter,
    @RufusJCooter@mstdn.social avatar

    @adnan @atomicpoet Well, the thing is, it's not just that different spices are different.

    It's that spices get processed by your system in the context of the other things that it's concurrently processing.

    You're (probably?) not eating raw green chilies on their own, w/o any other spices or ingredients alongside? Like, chicken, or rice, or [whatever]?

    Listen: Mexican hot is different from Szechuan hot is different from Thai hot is different from NOLA hot is different from [etc.]

    And I had a thought about why I find his writing so compelling - he's something of a 21st century Dickens; his daily threads show you the pieces of the puzzle, much as Dickens' serializations of his work doled out a story in bite-sized chunks. Then, you sit down and read the whole, and it you see the whole, and... damn.

    Because my sanity requires a bit of a break from social media, my thoughts are all going into my weekend blog posts.

    The comments are off, but please feel free to let me know here if I made an error. I don't hire a proofreader (duh, right?)

    (If you get the error message wait a minute and try again. If you have an idea for how to fix it other than using a cache plug in, which didn't work, let me know.)

    RufusJCooter,
    @RufusJCooter@mstdn.social avatar

    @Teri_Kanefield Thx, Teri, great read as always!

    A (slightly off-topic) ? for you: did you follow jury selection this past week, and if so, what did you make of it?

    (I ask because I was struck by how much Team Trump focused on jurors feelings re: T, and how little on how receptive they might be to T's theory of the case...)

    RufusJCooter,
    @RufusJCooter@mstdn.social avatar

    @Teri_Kanefield Certainly!

    On the other hand, I think that it's also possible for one to hate Trump, /and/ think that it's unseemly for the state to prosecute pols once they're out of power, or think that NY state law is so byzantine & convoluted that everyone has technically broken it at least once, so this is "selective prosecution, or (etc.)

    I don't think those things, mind! But if I were Team Trump, I'd have used voir dire to float some alt theories, not just ask people how they feel re:T

    I canโ€™t stand when Europeans get uppity about the USAโ€™s culture being imported there.

    My dudes, youโ€™ve been importing your culture to the USA for 400 years.

    What dominant language do Americans speak? Where do burgers, pizza, and beer come from? You think Americans just came up with that stuff on their own?

    Actually, since 1492, you Europeans have been colonizing the whole world. You werenโ€™t just importing your cultures, you were making it downright mandatory.

    Happy !

    I'm still not onto Black history. I'm still on white US history.

    Q: Why were Black folk so happy when OJ was acquitted? To be honest, it feels disgusting. Why does it seem like you're happy he got away with murder?

    A: Racism. Black folk did not like OJ that much. In fact, many Black people think he did it. Black folk didn't "celebrate OJ." Black folk celebrated the hope that a brutally unjust, evil, and racist system, could be defeated at all.

    A while back PBS Frontline had a doc on the anniversary of the verdict; towards the end, they get "regular people" commentary - one bit that stuck with me was from a barbershop in downtown LA:

    "[N]one of the customers believes that O.J. Simpson was innocent. But they agree on the fact that the police behaved as they've come to expect. "They framed a guilty man -- that's all it was," says the barber."
