Born at less than 320ppm CO₂.

Programmer and bus driver. It's a long story :-)

Based northern UK & Scotland

Europhile, especially since I worked 1½ years in north Holland.

Currently: C#, C, the language that shall not be named

#Assembly (for fun) on Intel PC and IBM #mainframe (emulated, these days. Download and unzip "TK4-" and you can play, as well).

#rexx #PL1 #SAS too.

Also other things, including a compiler for a new language. That should be ready in a decade. Or 2.

I take it back. I said that YouTube couldn't sink any lower than adverts for "get rich quick" schemes, ambulance chasers, and 3-hole inflatable Hitlers.

I was wrong. Now I'm getting slick-talking wannabe religious leaders telling me to pray, all from Hallow Inc. And they keep coming, must have spent a fortune on this campaign.

They can fuck right off.

@mondoweiss @palestine @israel I want to see a war crimes trial over this. I mean key people in Israel, USA, my own UK and anyone else involved.

I don't pretend that Hamas and other resistance fighters in Palestine are innocent. But the world will only be able to judge them after the full truth comes out.

Like Oscar Wilde, "I can resist anything except temptation," and my slow and halting journey to adulthood is really just me grappling with this fact, getting temptation out of my way before I can yield to it.

@pluralistic I think of "felony contempt of business model" every time I install the CSS library (to read copy-protected DVDs) along with apps such as VLC to play DVDs on Linux :-)

Apparently, doing that to watch DVDs (which I bought new) on the wrong sort of player is naughty. Oh well.

@tripplehelix @revk Later standards allow negotiation between the 2 devices about which is the host, and where (and how much) power can be delivered.

It's why these days having the right cable is important for fast charging. PD allows negotiating a much higher voltage, up to 20V I know and possibly higher to allow greater power supply.

Trying to get in to a routine with the new Apple Watch.

For years I have used a Powerwatch which does not need charging, well, maybe a couple of times a year in the Winter. It uses solar and thermal, which is great.

The Apple watch lasts 3 days, but what I need to do is get in to a habit of charging at some point every day.

Not while sleeping, as use to track sleep.

But also not every 3 days, as no way to make that a "routine".

My current plan is "when I poor a whisky" 🙂

    I love the idea (OK not really, it is cruel) that people that do not have an internal monologue are in fact NPCs... 🙂

    I have an internal monologue, but also have other mental processes - seeing (computer) code in my head in, sort of, multiple layers, and debugging code in my sleep. My monologue comes in writing and reading, and planning what I will say/type, but I also am able to come up with ideas out of thin air without "wording" them through in my head.

    You? (ya, why not boost, etc)

    RupertReynolds,
    @RupertReynolds@hachyderm.io avatar

    @revk Voted yes (my voice) but in truth it's complicated.

    As I write this my voice dictates (as a sanity check) but I don't go back and read to verify very often.

    When I'm writing code it depends when I learned the language, and how fluent I am.

    Writing IBM mainframe assembly
    LA R1,THING is "load address of THING".

    LA R1,0 is "ell ay one wi' zero" (a special case of Load Address) but when it was my first language the code flew out with only sparse commentary such as "R1 is loop counter".

    @DrALJONES use of the word "roaches" reminds me of the Rwandan genocide, in which nearly a million Tutsi (the minority) were butchered by the Hutu in a mass planned attack, also with significant race/religious factors at play.

    I couldn't give a flying fox "who started it".

    Any pretence at being a civilised society in the eyes of the public is blown apart by these continued attacks and dancing on the graves.

    RupertReynolds,
    @RupertReynolds@hachyderm.io avatar

    @DrALJONES I also have it on good authority (no, I don't mean just news outlets) that the IDF are also quite willing to kill Israeli citizens while they "just carry out orders".

    I can't condone the actions of Hamas. But I'm beginning to think that they were inevitable.

    Disclaimer: I'm English and I know a little history. My country is not innocent in Gaza (ref. 1948, for example). We should be standing up for peace and a humane solution. Everyone should.

    RupertReynolds,
    @RupertReynolds@hachyderm.io avatar

    @DrALJONES I want to apologise for my choice of words, mixing up my view of Israeli forces and leadership with Israel in general.

    I guess that a lot of regular Israeli citizens want peace as well. That may be obvious, but it needed saying.

    @framework Has anyone here got ideas about how to deal with a false delivery notice from FedEx?

    No response yet from Framework via the support link in the order confirmation e-mail.

    have form for this. Someone (driver?) 'signs' for the package, which never arrives. Customer kicks up a stink, then FedEx sometimes find it down the back of a sofa 2 days later.

    This seems very, very dodgy to me!

    I'm having problems with a false delivery notice in UK. No response to support message via link in order confirmation e-mail.

    Please advise how to get proper info on next steps.

    FedEx (via tracking link in Aftership e-mails) say my laptop is delivered on "6 listopada" which is Polish for 6th November.
    It also says it was delivered to "R.RYNOLDS" (spot the mistake) at address "Residence".
    Basically it's a load of 'Barry White' and FedEx have form for this in northern UK.

    @revk Sorry to bug you, but please can you recommend a really hassle-free Bluetooth audio module to use as an audio source for a class 'A' amp I'm making? It's a one-off, so unit price isn't likely to be an issue. Sound quality is.

    Analogue (stereo) only required, & it must be possible to prevent it auto-connecting to phones etc.

    I vaguely Linear being recommended, but I'm not seeing what I found at that time.
