Parental actions that come with an immediate alignment check:

  • Introducing the child to the Muppet version of Ode to Joy (sung by Beaker)

  • Putting the batteries BACK into the whining toy dog

  • Turning the jets on while the kid is in the bathtub

  • "Glitter is fun"

  • Cocomelon

  • Saying "shark" after the toddler yells "baby!"

  • Quoting your toddler during sexy talk with spouse

If the check fails, your alignment automatically moves to Chaotic.

I'm reading Philostratus' "On Heroes", and it's delightful. It is an alternate history of the Trojan War, but the best part is the frame story:

The whole thing is told by an old gardener who is on friendly terms with the ghost of a Greek hero who fell at Troy. The gardener works the fields around the grave, and the hero visits him quite often to chat, do some hoeing, and occasionally exercise. Oh and he is fifteen feet tall.

Born to rebel: The Life of Harriet Boyd Hawes - by Mary Allsebrook

The life of a curious, fascinating, unstoppable woman, written by her daughter. HBH was an archaeologist (among other jobs such as war nurse and appliance mechanic) who discovered the Minoan settlement of Gournia - the first woman to run a dig in Greece. The book paints a vivid and amusing picture, somewhere between Mrs. Maisel and The Durrells... She deserves her own TV show.

Since I am a bit late, I'll be catching up for the first few days 😅

(For those new to me, I volunteer at a food bank twice a week.)

Heidiknits,
@Heidiknits@mastodon.social avatar

Today at to food bank I went through donations that included:

An old remote control (dirty & sticky)
An unopened calendar from 2003
2 sticks of deodorant, expired 1997
A broken jewelry box
Opened bottle of Avon hand lotion, expired in 2016
Used nail files
Coffee mug with dried coffee in the bottom (yes, moldy)
Moth-holed sweater (I rescued this for mending practice!)

We don't need any of these things. Please don't donate obvious junk.
