@icastico @benthos @vinylrecords as somebody who works at an amazing independently owned record store that’s been in business for 35 years, this entire thread makes me cringe. My boss’ reputation is that of being a fair businessman, and his customers have rewarded him by keeping him in business for more than 3 decades. We’re in Canada. He sells copies of Foreigner 4 for $12 CAD. IN MINT. 🙄

@simongarlick @markmetz @vinylrecords the hippies are the biggest failures in the history of civilization.
It is not something that can be argued. When the majority of the most recognized “leaders” of your movement (the ones that survived) say it, well, that’s a pretty big failure. ALL OF THEM SOLD OUT. Each and every one of them.

BLACK SABBATH
Sabotage
1975 Canada pressing

A little Sunday Sabbath never hurt anyone.
I friggin’ love Sabotage. The back-to-back punch of Symptom Of The Universe and Megalomania do it for me every time. Not to mention the epic, gnarly closer The Writ.
It’s almost time to find a new play copy of this, as I’ve had it a long time and have drilled it into the ground.
I will continue to.
One of my favorite hard rock records ever.

@TheWarlock666 @zornslemmon @cazabon I have this on record. There’s like 30 of em used at my local store. I remember seeing Strange Brew as a kid and being utterly confused by it. After living in Canada for 16 years, it now makes perfect sense. 😂

When I was 9 yrs old I went to this event at a park with music and games. A local radio station was there, offering prizes to people. If you could throw X number of frisbees through this hula hoop you could choose a record from their stash. I won.

It was my first experience choosing my own music. I saw Billy Squier’s “Emotion in Motion.” It was brightly colored so I took it home and put it on our record player. It was my gateway to a lifetime passion of music.

@markwyner I friggin love Billy Squier. I have my oldest sister to Thavk for my love of this album. It was part of her record collection when I was 8, and loved it from the start. Great album.

@Whiskeyomega @vinylrecords the PROPER version is right. That other cover is a travesty and I hate the track listing. This one you have is great. Someone stole mine from a party a bunch of years ago.

Picked up a copy of this post punk classic at the weekend. Great underrated band, and local too. Sounds like a cross between Gang Of Four and The Slits. Every track makes you want to move.

Kind of a tough night for your good pal The Vinyl Ape.
An accidental mishap with insulin lead to a very long ordeal which included an ambulance ride and an overnight stay in the hospital.
I have returned home now and am resting.
    That was some scary shit.
I’m so very thankful to be alive.
Take care of yourselves and one another.

post-Covid has become a living, breathing repugnant nightmare.

Your friendly neighborhood Vinyl Ape was already supposed to be back on Van Isle; in the loving arms of my wife + son (& ).

5 hours before my early am Tuesday flight, Air Canada CANCELLED my plane; citing “limited staff”.
    Next available flight?
    THURSDAY.

The Ape is stuck here in New England for another TWO fucking days; a lonely, sad, angry primate; out for Air Canada’s blood.
    Stay at home people.
    It’s not worth it.

But I’ve already spent a significant amount of money, and I’m running out of storage to bring them back. I’ve got about 20. That should be good enough for this trip.
    SHOULD. 😂

    PAVEMENT
    Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
    2010 U.S. reissue

No offense to anybody who likes Slanted and Enchanted, but to call that Pavement’s best album when THIS ONE exists is asinine and laughable.
It is a flawless indie rock record from start to finish, and superior to S+E in every way imaginable.
An absolute classic and essential record.

    QUICKSAND
    Distant Populations
    2021 U.S. pressing

Another sweltering day outside, so I’m throwing heat on heat.
This was my favorite album of 2021, hands down. Superior to Interiors, their reunion record from 2017.
Long one of my favorite bands, I continue to pledge allegiance to the flag of the badass state of Quicksand.
Their album MANIC COMPRESSION was recently reissued, & i ordered it today.
    It’s on its way!
Then my Quicksand collection will be complete.

    THE MAD MYSTERY SOUND
    It's A Super-Spectacular Day
    1980 U.S. 7” Flexi-Disc

    A VERY UNIQUE RECORD!
This was a bonus record bound into the MAD Summer Special 31 in 1980.
It has EIGHT parallel grooves with eight different versions of the song. What does this mean? Well…
Its octuple-grooved, meaning that depending on where you drop the needle at the beginning, it plays a different song.
All 8 songs start out the same, then veer off in different directions.

    JOE HENDERSON FEATURING ALICE COLTRANE
    The Elements
    1974 U.S. pressing (Milestone)

Jazzin’ up my breakfast on this Wednesday morning.
I bought this at a yard sale about ten years ago because I absolutely love and adore Alice Coltrane.
I think I paid one or two dollars for it, but now, original pressings like these are quite expensive, and I think they reissued it not too long ago.
Pancakes and bacon with a side of Modal Fusion, please.
    For the win.

    THE CURE
    Standing On A Beach
    1986 Canada pressing

I first owned this on CD, and it’s still my preferred way of listening to this great collection; due to the vinyl version’s absence of four songs.
The four songs, although not singles, all had videos made for them. I was spoiled by the CD tracklist.
My son is starting to explore The Cure, so I’m gifting this to HIM as an entry level course to Phase 1 of The Cure.

    TELEVISION
    Marquee Moon
    2022 Europe reissue

One of the greatest albums ever recorded. After all these years, it’s only gotten better with age.
I can’t imagine how revelatory this album must have sounded ‘77(it came out 6 months before I was born.)
I discovered it when I was a freshman in high school in ‘92, and was instantly fascinated by both Verlaine and Lloyd’s guitar work on it.
Insane counter melodies and hooks galore!
    Timeless in every sense.
