One of my litmus tests for a software product these days is that, if it has search, I should be able to search for a nonsense phrase and get an answer that says “no results”. Every website and app is so damn thirsty for clicks now that it will just show an infinite scroll of useless garbage no matter what I’m looking for, which means I can’t get “no results” and then refine my search quickly, I have to page through the “results” to see if they’re plausibly related to my query. Please stop it.

I swear this was a topic of discussion like months ago... Didn't the @Tusky app fix the bug where pressing "load more" would wreck your position in the timeline? I thought they updated the software so that loading additional toots would load above your current position so you can keep reading.

I witnessed it working the desired way for weeks.

My install on this new phone isn't doing that, however.

Does anyone know how multiple pictures attached to a post are ordered by ? When I posted 3 images, one was placed above the other two, but I've seen other people's posts with one image placed to the left of the other two. What causes the positions to vary?

@DrKathyChandler The aspect ratio of the first image.

If it's wider than it is tall (landscape) then it's placed above images two and three.

Otherwise (portrait) it's placed to the left.

Es wird mir angezeigt, dass mein Posting bisher nur 1 x geteilt wurde. Klicke ich jedoch darauf, dann sehen ich 7 Profile, die mein Posting geteilt haben

Im Screenshot sind jedoch schon 7 Profile zu sehen, die meinen Beitrag geteilt haben

@nick @xdydx @Aakerbeere Tusky doesn't fetch content from servers other than yours, so it relies on the information your server provides.

This is cached, but the cache is updated if you tap on a post to view it.

Question / Suggestion about CamelCase.

For screenreaders, it's better if hashtags have each word capitalised. So not but . Yet, the suggestions that pop out while typing the hashtag are mostly all lowercase. Could this be improved? Even if I start typing TheDawnOf it will still suggest thedawnofeverything though I have only used the one with CamelCase myself. Accessibility should be made the default as much as possible.

For example, see the attached screenshot, showing the results of searching for "camelcase". The server has results in different cases, so that's how they are presented.

We noticed some of you are surprised by filtered post being displayed behind a warning since Tusky 22.

It's because Mastodon changed how their filter API works. If you want filtered posts to not show up at all, you need to edit your filters and set them to 'Hide completely'.

It sucks when behavior like this changes in an app, and we're really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and that we didn't catch it to warn before release.

Thank you for your patience and alerting us to it.

Changes in this release include:

@Whiskeyomega which Android version / device? There have been some reports that some non-stock Android variants are too aggressive with battery optimisation, interfering with notifications.

If your Android variant supports exempting an app from battery optimisation, try that

v22 beta 7 is released. This (should) fix the issue some beta testers have been suffering from, where the notifications tab would jump to the very oldest notifications.

That would happen if you were signed in with multiple accounts, and the notification IDs for those two accounts were very different. Sometimes Tusky would save the "what ID did you last read?" information to the wrong account, and when you next opened the notification tab for that account you would be at the wrong place.

@TalkingDroid For the "Load more" aspect try Preferences > Reading order, and set it to "Oldest first".

v22 does improve remembering the reading position in different tabs as you navigate around. There are some general changes that affect all tabs, and specific changes for the Notifications tab. That should never lose your position (issues discovered during the beta notwithstanding).

v23 should bring those Notifications tab changes everywhere, so Tusky never forgets where you are in a tab.

@TalkingDroid It changes the "Load more" behaviour.

"Newest first" means "Load more" will load the newest posts to fill the gap, and place you at the newest post. If you want to read the older posts that were just loaded then you scroll down.

"Oldest first" means "Load more" will load the oldest posts to fill the gap, and place you at the oldest post. Then you scroll up.

@TalkingDroid "Load more" is gone for the notifications tab in v22. This is so we can shake out the inevitable bugs before removing it everywhere else in v23 or v24.

Tusky v22 beta 6 has been released.

Previously, if you switched to the Notifications tab, scrolled up or down, and then changed your filters you would be returned to the notification that was focused when you switched to the tab.

That might be quite far from where you were when you changed the filters.

Now your reading position in the notifications list is retained, and you'll be returned to the same place when filters change.

We're still tracking what seems to be an extremely rare bug that only affects people signed in with multiple accounts. The symptom is that you open the Notifications tab and your very oldest notifications are shown, and now you have to scroll to the top (or repeatedly press the tab's icon).

More news on that soon.

To avoid any possible doubt about this, when Tusky suggests hashtags it is using your instance's "search" feature to get the first 10 hashtags that start with whatever you have typed so far.

So those hashtags are suggested by that instance.

22.0 beta 5 (!) is rolling out.

Two fixes in this one:

A new version of the APNG library broke animated emojis. That's been rolled back to an earlier version.

Not all Mastodon-like servers support the marker API to record which notifications have been sent. So that information is stored locally as well, just in case.

v22 beta 4 is released. Only one change, but if you've been using beta 3 with multiple accounts and have been inundated with repeat notifications that's been fixed.

One caveat; if you share access to an account with multiple people and you've all been using beta 3 you'll keep getting repeat notifications until everyone's upgraded past beta 3.
