The White House is picking a fight with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) after her hometown newspaper in Floyd County touted federal public safety grants the area was set to receive through the American Rescue Plan.
Greene, along with every other House Republican, voted against the American Rescue Plan in March 2021.
I got some Onn brand walkie talkies intending to use them in the mountains (which we did!). I'm learning all about how they work, including the privacy codes. Now I'm falling down the rabbit hole of #FRS (low power walkies like the ones I have) and #GMRS, and #CB and #HamRadio are on my radar now...
President Carter added water-heating solar panels to the White House #OTD in 1979, to demonstrate an ambitious long term commitment to renewable energy.
President Reagan, who was vehemently opposed to renewable energy, would later order their removal.
The panels weren't removed until 1986, though some of the sources I've seen claim that he ordered the removal as early as 1981. Whatever the timeline, Reagan proposed a budget that reduced Federal funding for renewable energy research by 85%.
In WW 2, millions of women, called "Rosies," supported the forces. Often overlooked are "Black Rosies," 600,000 Black women who joined various industries. Racism, sexism, & other obstacles hindered them. Despite these adversities, they made significant contributions to the war effort. Given the challenges, these remarkable women are some of the most significant figures of the 20th century. They have earned their place in history.
@Deglassco@blackmastodon@BlackMastodon My senior thesis at the University of Washington was on women like this that built the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, the most advanced tech of its day.
I got to meet one woman who was 90 years old and she let me interview her! Amazing folks!!
@Deglassco I was lucky enough to have some classes with Dr. Quintard Taylor of the University of Washington. I’ve researched some of the info on http://www.blackpast.org which has become a great resource for research on African American history!
Now I’ll shut up and give you some peace and quiet. ☺️
I am imperfectly built but my wiring demands I must stand against hatred and bigotry. I know some people aren't wired the way I am but if you're not, I ask that you make the decision to stand with me if you can.
In the 90s my Dad was complaining to his friend that all I did was play video games on the computer. His friend, who was in IT at the time, said "He's installing software and troubleshooting/upgrading the computer to make those games work."
His friend was right. I ended up helping my high school setup their computer lab, which led to my first computer repair job, which turned into running my own IT Consulting business.
Playing computer games turned into a 25+ year career.
Encourage kids to do what they love. You never know what it might turn into.
>"If she were a Democrat, she'd be on every fashion magazine," said the unpleasant governor on the Mark Levin Show. "They would be making her out to be the biggest deal. But because we're conservative, we know that that's not what happens."
